FBI: Violent Crime Up 30% in Las Vegas
    drudge report

Violent crime rose by more than 30% in Las Vegas and unincorporated Clark County last year. That's according to the latest figures from the FBI, which show double digit increases in rape, robbery, and aggravated assault between 2005 and 2006. That offsets drops in property crimes, vehicle thefts and arson over the same period. Violent crime was also up in both Henderson and North Las Vegas, but murders in both those cities fell last year. Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie says that other large cities are also seeing increases and blames what he calls a "younger, more violent segment" of society for the uptick in crime. Gillespie adds that fighting robberies has become a particular priority for Metro Police. Nationally, the FBI says violent crimes increased nearly 2% while property crimes fell by the same amount.

    crime in Vegas

This is very interesting to me, I have owned some rental properties in Vegas for years, going back to when the population was around 200,000 for the whole county. Now I live here full time and there are 2 million people and counting and I have never felt like there was a lot of crime here, until recently.
Week before last,I intervened in an attempted robbery, it was in broad daylight and frankly I was shocked and amazed at what I was seeing
By the way,I've also been informed that in all likelihood I will be sued by the perpretrator...

I was in the parking lot of a shopping center that has a stand alone atm. I was getting in to my truck when I heard someone scream and a couple of car horns honk. I thought someone had been hit by an auto, I looked over in the direction of the noise and saw a woman struggling with a man near the atm.
She was wearing one of those backpacks with a belt on it and this guy was trying to take it but with the belt it wasn't going anywhere.I ran over and dove into him from behind and to the side and we both hit a car that had pulled up to the ATM. Instead of running this guy decided he wanted to fight, which didn't work out for him. The woman in the car had dialed 911 so the cops were there about 4 minutes after I first tackled him. The police took my statement and took the guy to the ER on his way to jail. They got back in touch with me later that evening and asked me to sign a second statement stating that it was me and not the cops who had broke the guy's nose, and cracked two of his ribs.
No big deal, I was glad to be of assistance.

Violent crime up 30% in the 'City of Sin", eh?

Well, at least the government got all of the horrible AAS dealers off the streets. I'm sure that number will lower considerably now.
