Ah, the news as reported and interpreted by FOX news . . .
You'd think that they were against any sort of objective gathering of information concerning the spread of HIV in gay bars.
Nobody gripes about the price of war munitions; everybody gripes when it's time to save $$$ billions by closing down obsolete military bases. But spend a few hundred K on a study performed by medical professionals to figure out how to reduce unsafe sex in gay bars, thus saving the lives of gay people (and also saving $$$ in medical expenses), and all of a sudden the gov't is needlessly wasting money.
Truth is that most straight people haven't a clue what it's like to live in a society that actively hinders openly gay relationships; they haven't a clue why closeted gay people end up marrying women (maybe even your sister) and having gay sex on the down-low. If heterosexual policy makers are going to try to figure out how to curb unsafe sex here in the US, it's best if they have objective information about what's actually on and why. Much better to have systematically acquired information on the subject than to make assumptions about beer goggles.
"FOX News" is an oxymoron.

Hey, **** the money right. I mean they have studies on all kinds of irrelevant shit, why not gays banging each other?Last edited by Panzerfaust; 05-11-2009 at 08:22 PM.

Not all studies are worthwhile, I'll admit. On the other hand, many are.
Since this one was reported by FOX News, I'm assuming they are not telling the whole story. Since it's a story about keeping gay people alive, I'm assuming they are approaching it from their usual anti-gay perspective.
I've double-checked on enough of their stories to know that they mis-report on enough (most) to know there's more to this story than what FOX News is telling us.
Screw 'em.

"Cost of treatment has been projected to be a whopping $2,100 every month for an individual suffering from HIV infection"
"Researchers point out that although the US has tripled its funding for aids treatment programs in the last decade it still falls short of actually meeting the demands of the present scenario calling in for approximately $12.1 billion per year to tackle the present need without which accessibility to aids treatment would become out of bounds for the poorer people in the society. "
With a cost of 619k to treat one case of AIDS...I'd say if they are successful in slowing the spread at all it adds up to tax payer savings.
AIDS contracted in gay bars doesn't always stay in the gay only community, so no mater how you feel about gay people it's a good thing to keep AIDS out of the gay community.Last edited by Kratos; 05-11-2009 at 11:10 PM.

I'd rather see the money go directly to research...you aren't going to change it, and it's going to go more in this direction as national healthcare becomes a reality, so no point complaining about money spent on prevention when there are bigger numbers at stake.
Idk what they'll find out from the study...it seems a little stupid, but to market prevention to the community you have to understand the lack of appeal. It won't just be nights on the town, I'm sure there will be a detailed write up of findings and how they can better address the problem of unprotected sex to a specific demographic where aids is a big problem.

I'm damn near convinced there is a cure for Cancer and AIDS, but the bottom line is that it is more profitable to "treat" these diseases than it would be to cure them.
I wouldn't be shocked to find that they were man made viruses.***No source checks!!!***

I'm assuming you mean AIDS is man made, not cancer since it's been around since the dawn of time. But anyway, you aren't far off.
When AIDS first started spreading in this country it was almost exclusive to the gay community. The religious right and the Reagan administation felt no action was needed, and that AIDS was a good thing. Reagan's communications director Pat Buchanan argued that AIDS is "nature's revenge on gay men." Advise from scientists and health-professionals to do something about the health crisis were ignored. It was up to the gay community to spread their own word about AIDS and how to protect themselves. AIDS was left in the closet to proliferate.
They could have slowed down the spread drastically in the early years, and we wouldn't have so many cases in America now.
