Police say cook put body hair in cop's sandwich
"EVESHAM, N.J. — Police said a cook put a body hair in the bagel sandwich of a police officer who had given him tickets in the past. The cook was arrested Feb. 21 in the kitchen of Good Foods to Go in Evesham. The police officer ticketed the cook in March 2009 when he failed to pull over for a traffic violation.
The cook spent four hours in jail before his wife bailed him out, and was fired from his job.
The Courier-Post of Cherry Hill reports police asked them not to report the incident for fear of copycat crimes. The paper published the story anyway."

Things like this (and worse) happen alot more frequently than one would like to think...especially in communities that have work release programs for inmates because the majority of them work at restaurants (and oil-change shops also where we live). I'm a former state correctional officer, and my husband's civilian job is currently a state correctional officer and until I saw it firsthand, I had no idea how many convicted and currently incarcerated felons were handling the public's food. Although this article was about a disgruntled person who received a ticket, imagine what the inmates/former inmates do when they see a law enforcement officer or correctional officer enter their workplace...

The justice system is a joke, and those who support it should really look themselves in the mirror and ask why. Just my two cents. As a former corrections officer surely you can appreciate that. It has also been my experience that good officers are held in high regard. However, many times one will be judged by the worst to wear the uniform.... And there are a lot of corrupt and sadistic people with that uniform.
As someone who works in the food and beverage industry I can tell you that in 11 years something of that nature has only happened once that we heard of and the employee was instantly fired and blacklisted (He spit in a very rude customer's drink). He was just a dumbass teenage busboy. Granted, where I am there is no prison/work release or anything like that. The former felons I have worked with though were great.

I'm neither supporting nor bashing the criminal justice system...just pointing out that things similar to the article happen alot (and probably more often by people that have never been in trouble with the law). I agree that there are very limited opportunities for former felons, and that is one reason that the recidivism rate is so high...if they can't find work, what else are they going to do but what they know (which is usually illegal). However, the point of my comment didn't have anything to do with the fairness or injustice of the legal system...only the frequency of similar incidents.
