Great little vid...I totally agree with him.
i couldn't agree more.
agree, aesthetics and overall proportionality should matter the most over pure size
Real shit
Wow awesome vid, thanks for sharing. Loved hearing arnie and getting inside his head and what he thinks. I would never want to look like the modern bodybuilder, I personally base all my training on what the guys in the 70's looked like the ultimate V I call it. Todays bodybuilders I think are destroying the sport, the normal person doesnt enjoy it or want to be like anyone on stage. It has become a niche sport at best.
Lol the free market has proven your statement wrong dude. Phil Heath made how much at the last olympia? Obviously people don't feel how you say they do or he wouldn't be driving around in cars that cost more than any house I'll ever own.Originally Posted by cgeorgemeow
It is funny I think the majority of people out there agree with what he is saying but as was pointed out the market doesn't seem to bear that being true. 8 out of 10 guys I talk to would agree with what he says yet thats not the direction the sport is heading. Then again one thing hasnt changed much when it come to bodybuildng, the politics. Its almost like the winners are pre ordained. I see many contests where the top placings might be correct (not necessarily the rder of say the top 3, but the top 3 are correct) but places 4-10 I fell like are totally ****ed up a lot of the time. You have big name guys placing 4,5 & 6 that I dont even feel like have a place in the top 10, and guys that place 7-10 or maybe even out of the top 10 that i feel look freaking amazing.
This is in no way meant to be a dig but could it be your opinion isn't accurate at judging bodybuilding? Also I always hear people talk about the politics? But what is it exactly? What do the politics entail? Like simply paying off the judges? Or is there more to it?Originally Posted by jimmyinkedup
Not taken as a dig at all. There very well could be something to what you are saying. I am sure when it comes to the technical aspects of judging I dont posses the skill to actually be a judge, not even close I bet.
When it comes to the politics I dont really see it as direct payoffs I see it as the role $ and sponsors play and the influence they exert.
Just like w/any sport they're surely us a political backing... And Jimmy, I've always thought the same in regards to people placing higher then they should and lower than they should be!
Look at Shawn Ray for example(great symmetry good size always looked better then Flex I believe?) but never won an Olympia - I think 2nd or 3rd was his best if I'm not mistaken?! Just an example as I've always liked the way he was built
The fact that flex never won is a travesty IMO.Originally Posted by NACH3
I see, that makes sense for sure. I couldn't begin to judge either. Symmetry, size, proportions are the only things I know for sure the judge. To be honest I don't mind the new freaks. Larry Scott has my dream body but the new age monsters are cool in their own way. The lifestyle is utterly insane. They eat for like 4 people.Originally Posted by jimmyinkedup
I think the whole point is exactly that, that bodybuilding has become a freak show not a display of aesthetic appearance and actually appealing to real people. All the top bodybuilders now are just an anomaly to the outside world, and no one (besides the few in the sport) want to look like that, and very few women find it attractive (once again besides the exceptions). That's why there's such a movement into physique competitions, because it's a lot more realistic and pleasing to the average joe/janes eye.
To be honest I like it because it's impossible how big these guys get. I don't want to feel like I could look like the dude. It's like with football. Who wants to watch a bunch of 170lb dudes playing? Nobody. People wanna see giant dudes crushing each other. Just my opinion but I see your point for sure.Originally Posted by Khazima
Hmm i wonder what his problem was? Dexter Jackson and Jose Raymond won and they both look pretty damn good dexter has been around for a while and has one of the most aesthetically pleasing physiques of all time...Jose Raymond looked great but he does have a BIT of a gut..He's not nearly as bad as Roelly or Compton though
How heated people get over what causes those distended stomachs is funny. Nobody actually knows because there are legitimate experts that completely disagree. I really feel it's how much food they consume that does it, I know at the end of the day I look pregnant from eating. I have nothing to base this on other than what I said but I wouldn't be surprised if it was something else causing it.Originally Posted by davidtheman100
I can say for a fact it's not the eating, and people saying it's the eating is actually laughable. How people diet down into their shows it can't possibly be the food and it is known that high doses of HGH during extended periods of time enlarge organs and push the stomach out so i'm going with that.
That's one theory/part of the equation. There's other theories like the insulin abuse causing fatty build up around the organs, also the sheer weight of these guys is completely unnatural and causing excess hypertrophy of the midsection just to stabilise during daily activity. It's definitely drug related.
And Jose's gut is enormous, protrudes 3-4x further than his chest does it's insanely distended when he's relaxed. There was a picture of him post winning a show on MD magazine and the gut was just completely out of control.
This was outstanding for Arnold to say this and call out the president of the NPC/IFBB on the judging. Jim Manion has done an amazing job with his organization, but the judging and what they are looking for is crazy.
Things must change in judging because EVERYONE knows its political and you have trainers of these athletes sitting on the judging panel!!! How the FUK is that even possible?
Anyway, bodybuilding is being taken over by fitness modeling/ figure / Bikini/ Physique Unless things change... bodybuilding will start to be as popular as female bodybuilding.
Bc
I believe that physique category is judged more towards the symmetry that Arnold talks about now than bodybuilding. Sure the legs are a factor but if you took a top physique competitor added a few inches to his quads gave the legs some sweep he'd resemble the shape of BB competitors from pre 1980's
Idk the physique guys look so athletic. They don't look big and full like bodybuilders in my opinion. Even Larry Scott back in the 60s looked much bigger than any physique competitor I've ever seen but I see your pointOriginally Posted by scotty51312
Great video! I agree these guys are so big and jacked that the end result has changed alot. When I look at pics of Arnold in comparison to the new generation I think arnold and the old school guys look way better. JMO
hey chris
Bodybuilding competitions prioritizing size over aesthetics/althletic physiques are pushing the sport to its death by destroying its appeal to the general public
yeah i agree with that . some of these guys huff and puff going up or down a flight of stairs , they have the appearance of being athletic but far from it . at least the guys that are huge . im for a great physique and nice big muscle but there's a point for me where i feel like its useless to have anymore muscle then required
and like arny said about the gh or insulin gut , it looks disgusting , like bostin loyd
