Monty Python's Terry Jones is dead

He died yesterday at home in north London from complications from dementia. He was 77.

Born in Wales, he and (American) Terry Gilliam played dueling directors in most Python productions, most notably in The Holy Grail. The pair were referred to internally as "Terry J" and "Terry G."

Jones met fellow Python Michael Palin while still at Oxford and their joint writing was what propelled much of the group's comedy. They were Python's "Lennon & McCartney." Jones studied history and English at Oxford and it particularly was his historical knowledge of medieval England and his vision of what the medieval world looked like that gets credit for films like Jabberwoky (which 'technically' wasn't a Python film but was directed by Terry G and included most of the Pythons) and the "mud scenes" from The Holy Grail had such a dirty, gritty feel to them.

Jones: "Denis, there's some lovely filth down 'ere."

It's now two Pythons down and four to go.

You think someone will make this much fuss when you or I die?
