Working out when you're 30+
Some evidence in humans suggests that being physically fit helps people maintain their cognitive abilities as they age. Many cross-sectional studies find that physically active elderly people perform better than sedentary elderly people on cognitive tasks such as reasoning, vocabulary, memory and reaction time, according to a recent review of the literature by Robert Dustman, PhD, and his colleagues at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center, Salt Lake City. 1
I thought you 30+ guys (elderly) might like to see that working out has an additional benifit.
**I even sited my source TNT!

Right on arthurb999:
Its all about quality of life, having a nice build is great but being healthy and living longer is even better.

well,
this isnt the reason i started working out, but its one of the major reasons now......
i got a late start as far as age goes anyways, i started at 26. im now 40, and i feel better than when i was 21 or 22. im hoping i feel this good at 50 or 55 because of my lifestyle.

And I thought the only reason us old guys lifted wights was so we would have a better chance to pick up younger chicks!
Glad to see there are some other benefits on the side!

Arthur: you see elderly as a slam, we see it as a badge of honor that seperates the worldy-wise from the rest of the world! Heh, heh!
Thanks for helping us edlerly folk anyway!

Arthur maybe you could use your time more wisely, like picking the hairs out of your nose.

I have to go with AJAX's first reply "it's to pick up the younger chicks"
I find older people who still lift weights are a little more motivated in the other area's of there life also...they seem to have a more positive outlook on things in general...

I never thought of it like that Ajax, but I guess it's ture my wife is 16 years younger then me. And we did meet about a year and a half after I started to workout.
Maybe that is why I feel like I'm still in my twenties, and I tought it was only because I was lifting in the gym.
Hey Arthur,
It must be ture, I still remember my wife's name, used good vocabulary when I started talking (pick up) to her, my reaction (made my move) worked very well also, reasoning was better too, I (reasoned) better marry her before she gets away.
Maybe you can use this as a test case.
