What level of fitness can be achieved by older people

In 3 years i will be 40 years old, i am not sweating it because i have seen many people a lot older then me in great shape.

I am not interested in using any steroids , used them in the past and did not like it at all. My libido is fine lets just say that at 36 i am always horny LOL so i guess i dont need testosteron YET.....

I am interested in mobility, doing the sport that i love for long periods of time like karate, biking and weight lifting (Nothing too heavy no squatting no deadlifting because i got injured while doing thoses).

I was wondering what a good diet can do to really help someone when they get older, like eating veggies each day, drinking sencha green tea, taking EFA caps, glucosamine and collagen complex and whey protein to repair the body and cells.

I just saw a documentary on Jean Claude Van Damme and at 48 years old he is still kicking, and in great shape.

Also the guy that did the P90X program is 46 years old and ripped to shreds, i plan on doing this real soon has well to remove all the unwanted fat around my waist.

Also joined a gym with older members there is one man that is 67 years old and a tri athlete he runs everyday, swims and bikes has well, he has a serious weight training regiment, and dose not take steroids, he is thin and in great shape has well.

The sky is the limit on fitness, no matter what age your at if you train consistently and have a good diet you can achieve a level of health that is 100% up to what your body will physically allow. Of course fitness is relative, you may be 60 years old and in good shape. Will you be able to lift 400 lbs on bench like when you were 25, maybe not. But compared to your peer group your just as healthy as you where when you were 25.

Jean Claude Van Damme 2005 photo session

People can laught at him all they want saying he is a has been and all sorts of nasty comment like that Van Damme still has it, and he is a true legend in martial arts.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mYvQ04pL6t8

Look at theses kicks, and how high he can kick is just amazing.

Also how he has total control over is legs. I have so much to do when i get back into martial arts, before my injured back i used to do tkd and compete in the 185 pound division, i was fast and could really kick some ass, now i am 212 pounds of flabby fat ass and need to get back in the mix.

I got myself the P90X program and watch all the dvds intense and amazing, doc says that by April my back will be fixed 100% and that i will be able to get back into doing the things i love.

I'll be 50 in March and im natural "not by choice" But today just messing around did 1 squat 405:1 dead 405:2 flt bench 315 didnt break sweat,so i dont see why being 60 would hamper that unless joint damage

Jack Lelane at the time was 80 swam one mile while pulling five rowboats with a 200 pound man in each. the next year he wanted to swim one mile while pulling ten boats with a 200 pound man in each but his wife said no. His response was he was more afraid of his wife than the swim.

I think you missed my point. As a person advances in age they tend to lose muscle mass. Sedentary individuals lose about about 10% of muscle mass per decade after the age of 30. With resistance training this can be cut to as little as 1-2% per decade. My point was if you were a very fit 25 year old by the time your 60 and your still fit your not going to be as fit in an absolute terms as you were when you were 25. Relative to your peer group (other 60year olds) you may be even more fit than you were at 25.
