    Testosterone replacement therapy?

    59yrs. of age. 5'7 200lbs. Been in the gym over 30 yrs. now. Muscle Gains are very hard ,the last several years.

    Exactly what does the therapy entail? Any type of testing first? Dosages of what? How long? What can I expect? Not sure if I should bother with it at all.... or try a mild cycle? Trying to get an idea so I may make the correct decision.

    Your first step for determining if you need testosterone replacement would be blood work to determine your levels. There is a very good TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) area of the forum:

    Here's a link to a really good write up by a super nice guy that is really knowledgeable about TRT. This will give you some insight into the ideal labs to have pulled and locating a good Dr. should you need TRT.

    Yes definitely check and post in that section. But let me tell you, I'm 57, have been doing TRT for six months and have made very nice progress so far and have never been happier. But again, repost in that section and you will draw amazing responses to your questions!

    Initial comprehensive blood work should be done to determine if you are in fact an appropriate candidate for TRT. Odds are that you are, simply based on age.
    Protocol's can vary from gels to weekly injections (twice weekly better) either intramuscular or subcutaneous. There is also a relatively newer type of injection approved by the FDA a couple years ago called Aveed. It's the longest estered (lasting) form of testosterone which requires an initial injection, a follow up at 6 weeks then subsequent injections around 10 weeks or so, give or take based on blood levels.

    Google and take the "Adam Questionnaire" which will help you determine the need for hormone replacement. If it's needed, the key is to find a competent doctor that will treat you based on how you feel, not just by numbers on your blood work.

    When it comes to whether you should bother with it? Why would you not want to have the testosterone levels of a 20 year old man? Be sure to read the sticky threads at the top of the HRT forum please and begin to participate in the threads. You'll gain a lot of knowledge this way. Don't go into this uneducated as many doctors are weak in their knowledge of hormones.

    I'm 43 and take 100MG of cyp a week that was prescribed by my doctor. I was down in the 300 range at 38 and gaining weight even though I was lifting as long as I've been a member here. Almost 16 years

    We started wtih 500IU of HCG then later moved to 100MG of test two years ago. Both got me into the 700-900 range and I feel great. I also run 60 miles a week and lift 4 days a week and feel like I did when I'm 25 and with lower body fat.

    Having a doctor to support you and proper blood work(mine is quarterly) is essential as it's nothing to play with, you may accidentally cause other issues you didn't know about. I'm all for it as long as one is careful.

    Lots of good responses already. I'm fairly new to HRT (through a doc, had full bloods, Total T of 315) myself, but I am getting results. Prior to HRT, I had trouble continuing to make strength gains without getting fat in the process. In 10 weeks, I dropped from 25% BF to 22% BF and dropping from 227 to 224. Sex drive and performance improved and I'm continuing to make low and steady strength gains.

    first off, get blood work done, they will determine if you need TRT, check thyroid,
    pituitary function, reproductive function, full blood work.
    muscle gains are hard to come by without proper nutrition and calories,
    even then as you get older, coming by gains is difficult, the body naturally
    slows down, so supplementation is required even to sustain what you have.

    i'm not sure if you are asking about a steroid cycle or TRT.
    but either way, blood work is essential, if you do a cycle, your
    test will deffinately crash if you dont follow the protocols listed
    on this site, the sticky, first cycle is imparitive to read. Chances
    are your test levels will not come back to previous levels, so it
    would be helpful to have before and after results,
    Remember, if you do a cycle and harm your test levels, you will be on
    TRT for life, again, these are related to recovery, i'm certain age plays
    a factor in recovery as well, as a 30 year old male could probably recover
    alot better than a 59 year old naturally, (though this is not recommended).
