just can't get over the amount of hard work he put in. really blows me away the amount of work put in. i don't know of one sport that needs the amount of dedication and consistency as bodybuilding at that level. the closest i can even think of would be maybe boxing.

i think there physiques look distorted and not what a champion should look like

That music was not gay to me, in fact i loved it. The best thing about this vid is the shit Flex had to do to win. Chris had owned him at the Ironman a week before because Flex cheated with his diet. So Flex had to do 2-3 hours of cardio ED on zero carbs to comeback and beat Chris.

Watching this vid made me wanna cry.

    The man was great

I wonder how other pros feel watching this vid.. realising they're mediocre at best?

i agree about dorian. his physique just looks ugly to me. everything is blocky as hell. i think ronnie looked really good circa 2001, better than flex's best, but ronnie now makes dorian look like frank zane.

Flex will always be the man to me. As far as people flaming dorian he acheived what most people in the world of bodybuilding only dream about. I have respect for anyone who sets foot on stage.

you're right Meathead....absolutely no one on this board should anything about either one of them negatively...they were to different physiques....flex had the lines and the beauty where dorian had the brute muscle....two different genetic specimans. Now unless someone on here has beaten either one of them let alone been onstage with them...then talk the talk otherwise ssshhhhh....me included!

Oh thats not directed at anyone in particular......I had the privelege of training with dorian in NY...as he got ready for his third olympia and I just watched flex on the video and agree with music NOT being gay and agreeing with Narc it will get you emotional watching someone of that magnitude doing something we all strive to achieve.

    have you?

WHen he lost to ronnie the one year, turned his back to the crowd/judges, and tried ripping the check out the the check cariers hand. I thought that was pretty cool as a side note

let me preface this by saying I am a HUGE Dorian fan... made several pilgrimages to see him guest pose or compete... the man is huge and freaky... ok with that being said, Dorian is known for training heavy and intense, this is his calling card (or was) but training heavier doesn't always equate to training smarter.... there are two different physiques... what you then say is that a Frank Zane didn't train hard (I use him as an example because 1) he isn't a mass monster and 2) I personally know a couple of his old training partners) Believe me to get to that level they all train hard, what you see as a finished product does not translate into who trained the hardest (in this senerio at least) but both athelets knowing their body, thus train smarter... and yes training smarter can also mean train intensely... there was a time when Flex (and Frank...since I mentioned him) tried to play the mass game... it didn't fit their body and didn't translate well in the final product, Dorian couldn't compete in that world, he doesn't have the genetics to do so, so he trained for a different look... his marketing has pushed the fact he trains hard, hell his video is called "Blood & Guts" can't get more of a hardcore name than that BUT he does not hold the market on training intensity...

interesting...who do you think does hold that card for training intensity? I have seen videos of flex. i cant say i was impressed at all with his mindset during workouts though

I don't think anyone holds the market exclusively
genetics will get you so far
diet will get you so far
training will get you so far
drugs will get you so far
so on and so forth ... you get the point...
It's discipline that binds it all, at that level, nobody can rely on any one thing mentioned above more than the other... as far as the vid goes, it's a vid... is it indicative of all his training? Is it even a good representation? I don't know. I remember seeing pics of Flex when he first started out and he was a skinny little thing, I have to think that a mix of all elements including training like a madman went into building a physique such as his...

    ok..

what did you make of how he acted when he lost to coleman if you know what i am talking about. you think he is acting like an ass or somthing else? its somwhere on youtube. try searching for flex i think. its the 99 oympia "i think" where flex kind of turned his back at one point and then tried ripping the check out ofthe guy's hand?

Read the interview as to WHY Flex did what he did at the 99 Mr.O. Flex lost by 3 points the year before, the man comes back in 99 bigger and more conditioned than in 98, while Ronnie was off from his 98 showing. Throughout the whole show Flex swore he had Ronnie only to be robbed. He turned his back to the crowd because he wanted to cry and in his words 'didn't think it was right or fair'. I agree with him, bust your balls for a whole 3-4 months just too lose? Hell no.

i can understand where he is coming from. i know what it feels like to lose. not bodybuilding but football. theres been games that were lost where we didnt want to live.

But ronnie had him. they were close, real close. but ronnie had a pair of legs that really stood out standing next to flex. muscle for muscle ronnie was bigger, but not by much.
