Dynamic training
I was thinking of doing a butt load of plyometrics, focusing more on dynamic effort lifts and Oly styl weightlifting for a while. Has anyone tried this? There is a martial arts guy I am getting to meet in the next couple of weeks named Parino (sp?) and he has trained with basically only high velocity training, be it weights or plyos. I heard he has benched 390lbs at 136 (I'd have to see it to believe it), but doesn't powerlift. He's known for training secret service, navy seals and he also teaches Troy Polamalu.

Plyo is great, it is what makes the West side program so successful, but too much ply/dynamic work could be too taxing on the CNS and actually lead to regression. As the West side program has shown a good balance between ME and DE work is essential to a good program.

That's crazy doc, your a beast. My concern was the CNS and everything I do is oriented around CNS progression above all. I was think about doing a fourteen day routine in which I lift nine days. It would be like this.
4 days oly style weight lifting and plyos
2 days max effort squat and bench (1 each)
2 auxiliary work (for bis and whatever, but this is more for endurance than anything)
1 day strongman event training (includes DL for reps)
I sure wish a WSM competitor had a training site. It is a guessing gam on how to train for the events. Steve Kirit lives in town here and I can't so much as get an email address to ask him pointers. Or more interestingly where he trained in town. Feel free to make suggestions, because chances are that you have more of a clue than I do as to how I should train for a strongman.

also with your program, it looks like quite a bit much. it may be to rough on the old cns, only way to find out is to try it, if it seems to much, next workout cycle , drop the volume down a little. i see waht you are trying to do, train olympic, BBing, plifting, and bbing all smacked together, truth of the matter is, a jack of all trades is a master at nothing. i think it is possible to do this, but you wouldnt excell to your fullest potential in any of the sports. to be your best, one is better traing for the sport of highest priority first

Honestly, everything I do makes me grow. I have been doing oly training and the day before yesterday I did a max effort deadlift up to a heavy single. I haven't cracked 600 in competition, but I locked out 625 @ 331.8 bwt. Pretty sweet huh?!

Don't forget doc, I am sort of in off season from PL. IN previous years I did either BB or nothing for 3-4 months (I worked technique mostly for PL). And this year there wasn't really a post season for me in the usapl because I started juicing instead of competing. I did this mostly to avoid the past embarrassment I faced at Nationals where it seems most folks were on juice.
When it comes time to peak for powerlifting, I'll be ready. After this little experiment I'll have a couple weeks off before getting ready to compete. I just have to figure out which fed. One thing is for sure, I used to be really shaky with over 600 on my back and since I've been doing front squats and carrying my makeshift husafel stone, that is no longer the case. But mostly I am excited about the DL, especially because of my short arms and the progress I have had inspite. Confusion induces growth.
