    thinking of powerlifting

i've been thinkning of starting powerlifting and moving away from bodybuilding for a while, just for personal satisfaction. i want to get that thickness that powerlifters get from training and also the strength but mainly the thickness. How would i go about it, i don't know where to start. Do i diet the same as a bodybuilding diet do i split my days the same as a bodyduilding etc. excuse my ignorance i've had an interest in powerlifting but never know how to go about starting it any advice would be great thanks

Correct me if i am wrong but bodybuilders get a better "thickness" then powerlifters. Powerlifters seem to put on more fat then bodybuilder but have more strength.

i tend to disagree look at people like coleman, franco they become thicker easier than just a standard bodybuilder, a few boys that i have come across used to be powerlifters and switched over to bodybuilding and are thicker than just the bodybuilders.

Ideally its probably best to start out as a powerlifter then transition into bodybuilding. Powerlifting teaches you the basics and gives you a good foundation from which to build from. Ronnie i think along time ago did powerlifting and still trains very heavy how many BB do 800lb. deads. franco did powerlifting also.

try the 3x3 or 5x5 program i have stickied n this forum. both are basic routines thatwrk the core lifts, perfect for a quick start to increasing strength. and easy to follow.

Do you plan on doing PL or BB in the lng run. If PLing is drug of choice, there are many theories you can read about and try, such as progressive overload and WestSide Barbell Club's training.

In the long run i want to do bodybuilding but i would like to just mix it up and change it around a bit, this would help shock the muscle and get it to grow, a bit differently

What I recommend is doing compound PL movements for 1-6 reps schemes. Alot of guys in PLing don't use the legpress, but I think it develops good "bottom of the barrel" strength, if that makes any sense. Beside, leg pressing is great for glute ham tie ins. Try some isometrics, dynamic effort (speed training, plyos and balistic reps). BAsically, anything you think that might be designed for lockout, just dump it. If you have questions about individual exercises or routines, ask away. A couple of questions about the usefullness of individual exercises should give you an idea of what you are looking to employ and conversely, dump.
