    Bicep Problem

    Hy,

My training is westside inspired,so last week on ME bench i switched from wide grip incline to noarow grip flat bench. When i started benching i started to feel a pain in my bibep(both arms) like a strain or something...Any idea why?

I train biceps once a week with some narow grip "SCOTT" curls and some dumbell hammer curls. Abaut a month a go i used to do wide grip standing curls in stead of hammer curls...Doaes this relate to my pain? I never had this problem before .

its hard to say where the pain came from... personally I would start icing the area 15-20 min a couple of times a day (for sure after a workout and possibly more if needed) and I tend to take ibuprofen @ 800mg before a workout if I'm really aching... you may want to ease up on the curls for a bit. I would try to find a way to work around the pain... but if it gets too bad you may have to take some rest days.

From what i been reading grip on the bench doesn't really matter. Stick to your normal grip. You shouldn't feel a bench press in your bi's, maybe in your tri's.

biceps and the brachialis are key to bench press descent. a narrower grip will put more stress on these muscles. however, ive never had any problems tho, and i dont know of anyone who has. cut back on curl work and see if it gets better.

I think your right Mike. Usualy i can use more weight on curls than tri extensions. So instead of my usual heavy curling i've done only one ex for bi with moderate weight and a groove that involves my sholders in to the move(move the bar to the eyes) ,and I feel better already.Plus i chaged the exercises on my tricep only day and tried to hit it harder.

The pain has to come from an bicep stronger than tricep inbalance.Usualy when i take the squat bar or the rack i use to feel the weight in my tri a litile. But now(since i got heavyer on the curls) I felt a bicep pain on that too.

The pain seems to be gone now(i also used some antiinflamators non-steroid ,i lift drug free) .But i'll have to wait until Monday(heavi SQ) and wnesday (heavi Bench) to see if the problem is realy solved bechouse thats when the problem raly kicks in.
