Deadlifted for the first time ever today, 315 x 3 !!!

I warmed up with 135 and then did 225 for 10 clean reps. Then on my last set I did 3 clean reps. I was pretty stoked, it felt great. Is this pretty good for a first time dealdlifter? REDROCK

Out of curiousity, do you guys deadlift using lifting straps?

I use to deadlift 315x6 at a 170lbs body weight, but I recently decided to ditch the straps so I can improve my gripping sterngth. However, without the straps, I'm deadlifting 225x4.

Should I use lifting straps in deadlifts to move more weight?

I can comfortable rep out 225 WITHOUT straps. I only use them on my last set. I too am trying to increase my strength, so I only use them when I absolutely have to. REDROCK

Work on your grip instead of using straps. I suggest farmers walk. It did wonders for my grip. Now I can grip whatever I need to grip.

When doing the farmer's walk, how far do you typically walk?

nice lifting! keep pulling it is no doubt one of the best exercises for overall strength and mass building.

as far as straps are concerned I would stay away from them for the most part... if you can use chalk for heavy attempts use chalk. I typically use straps only for my heaviest rack pulls which can be up to 120% of my deadlift max... so I think there is a time and place for them... just use them sparingly. good luck lifting and stay strong!

315x3 is pretty good. i only use straps in DL if my forearm becomes inflammed (a problem i sometimes have). you cant use them in competition so no use training that way. are you using double overhand grip? try the hook grip or reverse grip when the weight gets big. both comp legal.

pick up some big dumbells and just walk around the gym holding them. its a hell of a cardio workout too.

hook grip is a must, than you wont need the straps, also ifind deadlifting anything for more than 5-6reps is a waste, forget sets of tens, next time youmax, just work your wauup with singles, you can do alot more than 315,trust me
