    German Block question

Hey all, I am just starting into my 3rd week of german block (thanks Doc. Sust for the routine). I have been doing the 5x5, 8x6, 5x5 scheme, but I was looking at the bottom part of the german block routine page, and it says for phase 1 you can do squat: 5-8x5 bench: 6-8x6 deadlift: 5-8x5. How should I determine how many sets I should do? I feel like I could do more than just the 5x5 for squats and deads, should I?
I'm looking foward to getting to the second phase of this, so I can lift some heavier weights again.

    Thanks

you might be better off sticking to what it says to do and just keep a really high level of intensity and form. i was just reading up on this program, it seems effective.

what kinda numbers are you putting up right now and what are your goals?

when i did the program i stuck to the lowest number of sets possible,(except on the bench becaue the press always feels easy to me, i would do the max number of sets on the press) i think when you become a more advanced lifter and you start using heavier weights, you dont need as many working sets BUT, if you still feel after you hit 5 sets, that you still have more in the tank because the weights felt light, than go for a few more sets, you have to play it by how you feel, listen to your body

This week I finally have reached my max lifts week for the block ( I had to take a week off because I got a pretty bad case of the flu around week 4, so when I got back in the gym I started over again at week 2.)
    my goals were :
315 full squat (up until a year ago I had been squatting slightly above parallel and I've been working on getting ass to the ground)
    275 bench
    315 deadlift

Yesterday I was able to squat the 315 with ease, and put up 325 without much difficulty. I am extremely happy with these results (my lifts had more or less been stagnant for about a year, especially bench). This program really works. Tomorrow is bench day and I have no doubt that I will meet my goal.
Thank you Doc. Sust for posting this routine!

looks like they combined the 3x3 and 5x5 threads, the german block is the first one in this thread.

    3x3 and 5x5 routines

hey, just wanted to say that I successfully got both of my max attempts in bench and dead as well this last week. I worked really hard to get my form right on all three lifts and I think that is what helped the most. I'm going to do some different lifting for a week or two and then do the block again.

good plan, hell you can even take 4 wks off until you restart the program, a little change is a good thing. otherwise i found the program would get stale and monotonous(sp?) if you didint change it up a little
