Do you want Powerlifting to become a mainstream sport or an underground sport?
I would love to see powerlifting become a mainstream sport. There will be more recognition, more sponsorship, more money, increase chance to get in the Olympics and be back on tv again.

Sadly strongman is the only portion that seems to have the marketability, would be great though.

I'd like it to go mainstream. I love it, but a lot of ppl are not familiar with it or have misconceptions of it.

As much as I love powerlifting, to the general public, its boring. Meets are too long, the general public doesn't know the concept of weight, too many divisions, too many weight classes, too many organizations, and the public doesn't get the use of gear (shirts, suits, etc.). It would take a total revamping of the sport in order to make it mainstream.

MuscleTech has recently done advertising geared straight to the powerlifting market. they dont know if it will be successful right now tho..
personally i want it to stay underground. Like mentioned above it is boring to the average person. Why does everything need to be in the olympics anyway? the olympics used to be a chance for amateurs to showcase skills, now its just a professional athlete, media, political, advertising ****up. its all about the money like McDonalds selling burgers and spurring local economies to build all the crap for the thing. MONEY.
besides as many others have said, with shirts, suits, wraps, briefs etc, it aint going to have a chance. maybe raw. maybe.

As a powerlifter myself I would love to see it as a mainstream sport. I think the reason they dont do to good in attendance and popularaty is because of its poor advertisement. Before i had internet it took me a year asking around where will there be a meet going on. Not even gym owners knew. They just said check on the internet, but at that time again, i didnt have any service for that or a computer, couldnt afford it, lol. If they get meets advertised on TV I think it will make it. Before bodybuilding use to be on TV all the time. Know because of the anti-steroid craze they wont even advertise a show on it, whats up with that! Heck, I still remember the muscle mag show on ESPN, lol.

I think it would be great to see in the olympics
How is weightlifting in and powerlifting not?

Regardless of how boring it is to the public, it is still a far more relevant sport than olympic weightlifting. There are roughly 30 times as many competitive powerlifters as weightlifters. Olympics weightlifting is a true fringe sport... a 600 pound bench press is impressive to anyone who's ever been to a gym, while a 400 pound clean in jerk is harder to relate to, since it is rarely performed (especially in America.)
Seriously, if you see a really big guy at the gym, are you gonna go ask him and ask how much he snatches or how much he squats?
