    DL help please, DOC?

Doc, been reading your threads on DL's. I'm going for a natural Max before the end of the year and need some advice. I was hoping for a routine to max with in the next two weeks. The reason I say natural is I have some test on hand that I want to start after the first of the year. This will be my first time trying gear. So I want to hit my max naturally, then go as hard as I can on some light gear. Can you help me with a routine, prob max out 29/30th of Dec time frame.

This past tues I went in for a max and my routine was as follows:

    W/U: 135x10
    225x5
    315x3
    405x1
    495x1
    545x1
    561x1 failed

I failed at 565. Got it about three inches up and mentally wasn't there, physically too but the mental part got me. How would you change this, going for 565x1. I think there should prob be more of a jump between 545/565. 545 came up relatively easy though. Maybe I was wiped, not sure.

BTW, no suit, no gear, no straps. I was even wearing shoes at the time. Normally I'll barefoot the max and use my 10mm lever belt around 495 or higher.

Lastly, after the first of the year, I'm going to get heavy into DL's and Squats again. I understand the effects of DL's and Squats on the body and with the extra help I will be getting with the gear, I'd like to maximize my return on the investment. Is there any one program that is better than the other out of the stickies you posted? At my gym, chains aren't available. Hell, I'm the one of only a few guys that DL's and squats in my current gym.

if you are going to max in two wks do this. do nothing! i mean nothing. before i max for a meet ,i stop deadlifting 2 wks before a meet. when i pulled 705 , two wks b4 meet. i pulled 650 for one and then missed my next attempt of 650 for a 2nd set. 2 wks off , i pulled 705 and close shot at 730. next time you max hit skip 495 and go for 515 than right for 565.

as far as training goes, pick any dead program, all work,i have used all and made gains, cant say which one is best, what i do now is best, but it is impossible to explain. but i got to this level by taking all the old programs, and picking out what works fo, picking exercise that work my individual wk points, and knowing where i need to be before i max. u need to learn what your weaknesses are in the lift, what muscles and exercises need to be done to make this weakness stronger, and then be able to pick out your new weak point once you fixed the old weak point. there will always be a new wk point and it will always change. my old wk point was off the floor, so i did deficit deadlifts. now i fixed that and pull strong from floor but my lockout is now my new wk point, so i have been doing a lot more rack lockout and plan to do reverse band deads to fix this.

try my old deadlift program the modified coan/bolton routine.look at the routine. after you hit yourheavy pull you have some lighter sets for reps. do these as deficit deadlifts. pull by standing on plates or a one to two inch box. you may have to lower the percents but only for the deficit pulls or than again you may not have too. however, keep the original percent for heavy set the same. simple and easy, good place to start, put you have to make it work for you do it once by the book, then alter it using other ideas of your own. does that help? you do the routine i told you too, there is no doubt your deadlift goes up... a lot

Going for it tonight Doc, did some cardio last night. Starting to realize I need to get my BF down before I get into the test I have.

Last time I did that it was the start of my Keto diet and I felt like I lost some muscle as well. I know two weeks won't matter though, so I might end up doing this along with a bunch of cardio.

Got 565 about 8 inches up and just couldn't go anymore......even cranking some droppin plates in my ears, just didn't feel in tuned.

    135x10
    225x5
    315x3
    405x2
    515x1
    565xFAIL

It came up a little further this time than last so I know its getting there. I obviously have some work to do and will keep this up to date. Shitty part is, 2 weeks ago, 545 came up easy, its hard to think that 20lbs would be that much of a difference.

hey it happens, you know where your weak point is now. so set your new goal max at 570-575 and use that routine i showed you and next time you max, you will see a huge difference.
