Homemade Cheddar Biscuits
Homemade cheddar biscuits
(Whole wheat and cheddar biscuits.)
1-1/4 cup of all purpose flour
¾ cup of whole wheat flour
2 tsp. baking powder
1 tsp. baking soda
¼ tsp. salt
¼ tsp. cayenne pepper
½ cup of shredded sharp reduced fat cheddar cheese (2oz)
3 tbsp. Butter or margarine
1 cup of buttermilk
1 tsp. honey
Preheat oven to 425 degrees
In a medium bowl, combine flours, baking powder and baking soda, salt, and cayenne pepper. Stir in the cheese. Using a pastry blender, cut in butter until the mixture resembles lose crumbs.
Combine the buttermilk and the honey. Add this to the dry ingredients. Using a fork, stir to form soft dough. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Form into a ball. Roll out dough to ¾ inch thickness. Cut into 2-1/2 inch rounds using a biscuit or cookie cutter. Place biscuits on a cookie sheet that has been sprayed with non-stick cooking spray. Bake for 12 minutes, until biscuits have puffed up and are light golden brown. Serve warm.
