What do you guys think about concealed carry?

48 states now have concealed carry legislation on the books, and there are many studies which show violent crime plummeting after these laws were passed, due to criminals being more hesitant to attack someone who may or may not be armed. Concealed carry licenses require background checks, and some even require mandatory training classes.

One particularly interesting study found that concealed carry holders are 5.7 times less likely to be arrested for violent offenses than the general public, and 13.5 times less likely to be arrested for non-violent offenses.

Unfortunately, I live in Illinois, one of the two states that chooses to deny a citizen's right to bear arms.

What do you guys think? Anyone have a CCW here? What gun do you carry?

Out of 11 million people in NJ, only 3,500 non-law enforcement personnel have CCW permits. That covers armored truck drivers and bounty hunters as well, so that means an even less number of regular citizens have CCW in the state. Oh well...looks like Ill keep carrying and risking it...

Its very easy to be idealistic and think that "the police can always protect you." However, anyone with common sense knows that the police are not everywhere at every time. If this were the case, people would not get robbed, raped, killed, mugged, etc, etc...

Mace or pepper spray? Many reasons this is not adequate. You dont bring a knife to a gun fight. And believe it or not, pepper spray does not work on everyone, especially meth heads and crackheads, sometimes shooting them doesnt even work unless your using a .45 or something similar with alot of stopping power. I just dont understand how any rational thinking citizen can believe that people should not have adequate and EQUAL means to defend themselves. By equal means, I mean why should a person rely on a less effective method like mase/pepper spray when the bad guy is carrying a gun?

Statistics show that conceal and carry lowers crime rates, PERIOD. Crazy people and bad guys will still get guns, whether you let law abiding citizens with clean records posess and carry them or not.

You can find about any statistic for or against somthing, if you look hard enough. But recently I read one posted on MSN that said the crime rate of concele and care was going up.

I know it is not for me to say, but it is just my opinion though.

Yes it is your two cent I respect that. If the government took away hand guns. They I say they because Legal gun owner rarely do not do drive bys or shoot people in front of liqure stores. They will start using knifes or rocks, or burn peole to there death. They is to afraid to use there hands. If you do your home work you will find that most crimes are comitted with illigal hand guns. But the media and the governmet will NOT tell you that. (So in short I need a hand gun to protect my self from they. I agree its a 200 year old cop out if you ask me. How many mass murders have been committed with knives and rocks. Oh let me think..... none !!!! And you do have to live in fear of those drive by knife throwings !!! Australia and many other countries have banned all hand guns and basically anything that shoots. Now somebody show me the US stats against any country that has banned the use of guns that show that carrying guns is a good idea.

So comparing kids and adults is not a good comparision. Legal gun owners do not do drive bys. or gun down people in front off liquor stores,or go to the local high school and do the unthinkable.
