splitting injections

i have read that splitting the injections, for example test e, at 250mg twice a week instead of 500mg once a week will help lower side affects and keep blood levels constant. Is that the only difference? Is there ne difference in results or kick in time? has ne1 here done test e at 500mg once a week?
