    Nerve or Circulation damage

I have been working out for 8 years ...the last 3 years seriously. I am experiencing tingling in my finger tips and it is starting to affect my lifting. When I do dumbell curls my entire hand will go numb and I almost drop the weight. Have I completely ****ed my self or should I just take a week or so off and let it go away? Thanks guys

(when i wake up my whole left hand is asleep also...and throughout the day a couple of my finger tips are numb..)

It sounds like you could have one of two conditions. The first and most likely is a condition called Pectoralis Minor Syndrome (only because you workout). It is cause by hypertrophy of the Pec minor muscle and causes compression of the nerves that run through it (brachial plexus)

The second condition is called Thoracic Outlet Syndrome. It is cause by compression of the nerve and blood vessels in the neck by the Scalenes muscles.

What you can do about these is go see a Chiropractor because of the mechanical nature of the condition. They will treat it in a variety of ways include physical therapy, soft tissue, muscle stim and maybe adjustments. If you see a MD he will likely refer you to a Physical therapist that will do all the same things but cost more.

    Hope this helps...

MS- Thanks for the quick reply. It sounds like it would most likely be the first one. My chest has always been bigger than the rest of my body (it develops faster and bigger than the rest of my muscles for some reason) When I stretch my chest or raise my arms up over my head stretching I feel that nerve go off and the arms go numb. Im heading to the doc right now actually because it is annoying me and today is my chest day!!

    Thanks again bro

actually sounds more like carpal tunnel syndrome to me, not to say anything about the highly intelligent response by MuscleScience. common in lifting circles and caused by reptitive strain amongst other things. what is your occupation? even constant use of kb+mouse can aggravate this.
you should wear splints at night, which immobilize the wrists. I used to suffer from this years ago but since I started wearing splints at night(and still do), I no longer have any problems.

    easy to diagnose.

    Phalen's Sign:

Phalen's test is done by pushing the back of your hands together for one minute. This compresses the carpal tunnel and is also positive when it causes the same symptoms you have been experiencing with your carpal tunnel syndrome.

you may later in life need surgery, a simple day procedure for decompression but it could improve with splints or not deteriorate further.

google for lots of info on this.
