    Shoulder surgery results. Not Good.

I posted this same issue in another forum and thought I would ask here as well. I would do a search but trust me, there are no threads on this problem. Excuse my new status to the site. I am by no means new to the sport, just to the site. Here's is the situation. I am hoping someone may have some experience in this and can shed some light on what I can make of my situation and where to go from here.

I had shoulder surgery several months ago and after waking up the surgeon answered a few questions and then was on his way to another patient. Before leaving he told me he was able to remove the bone spur he claimed was well over 1/2" long (which he stated was the biggest he'd seen in 30 years of surgery) but my rotator could not be repaired because the damage to the supraspinatus was not repairable. So what does this mean? Well I found out today...Finally! I asked him some specific questions going in because up until today he wasn't very helpful. I found that the supraspinatus wasn't just unrepairable, it was gone. Meaning, when it tore, it tore completely and snapped completely away and because the VA takes some time in getting to things it could not be stretched back out and re-attached. Now this seems odd because other than the usual soreness associated with the surgery, I feel pretty good. And having already started working back into a light routine I don't feel any difference in my range of motion and my shoulder seems to be coming back just fine. I asked him if this sounded right to him and he said that other than certain movements I may not see much in the way of a weakening in the shoulder and my deltoid muscles will eventually pick up the slack and stabilize the joint just fine. Now I'm not saying I will ever bench heavy again. Hell, I'm not young anymore so who cares. But, I'd like to get back somewhere close to where I was and just maintain it.

    Any thoughts people?

Alright, let me add a little to this. Beacuse this isvery odd. I just got back from my first actual gym workout in years and despite the fact that I am notably weaker (time will do that to you) my shoulder is acting like the rotator is undamaged. I have spent the last could months with the power bands given to me by the PT and working with very light weights but this is so odd to me considering the spuraspinatus portion of the roator is now gone.

I suffer from back injury and from joint instability, i know how frustring it can be i have been seen every specialist there is.

I have no disk damage a part from 2 discopathy L4L5 and L5S1 which i think i can rehydrate with proper exercises.

Has for training it really sucks but we need to realize that we are not invincible either.

2 of my friends got shoulder surgery, i dont know exactly how the operation was performed but i know that afterward they both went into physiotherapy.

There are movements that will be limited for sure, one of them cannot bench press even with light weights but the other one can weight train just fine has long has he doesnt lift heavy.

Good luck in your rehab. I am going in prolotherapy Sept 5, i can keep you posted if its good or not for shoulders.

I am going for lower and upper back pain.

I had two discs that herniated at L3 & L5. I received 5 sets of epidural injections over several months and I haven't had a problem with my back since then. That was over 5 years ago.

Anyway, it's now about 8 hours since my work out and my shoulder feels fine. I did a modified upper body workout but left out military presses. I think I will stay away from those for a while and even if I do them I will stay very lite. I don't think I'll ever mess with a cycle again. I think that the added strength from it may inspire me to do more than the shoulder is capable of. That said, it's natural for me from here on out.

Let me know how your back goes...

Sorry to hear you had to go through all that man. Sounds like it's going pretty good so far though, and that's a plus. Just bring it back nice and slow and hopefully everything will be ok. I have a slight shoulder issue right now and won't go near the military press.lol
I'm strictly dumbell guy right now, with the occasional hammer press with light weight if it feels ok to do so. If not, i skip it. Raises are ok though. Good luck.

THanks i sure will, prolotherapy is suppose to repair the ligaments and tendons so i guess it cannot be that bad, i did read tones of feedback on people how had it done and it was very postive.

I really hope its worth it because it cost a lot of $$$$

    Thanks....

I did all the usual raises, front, side and rear along with my chest, back and arms and I just don't know how that part of the rotator can be completely gone. You would think that there would be some limited movement but it's as if there is nothing wrong with it. I stayed very lite and will keep it that way for some time. And although at one time I did my overhead dumbbell presses with 100's, that'll never happen again. But I'm ok with that. As long as I can build my strength back up and continue to improve my physique I'm fine with it.
