Why do the nutrition labels on food not add up properly with total cals?

I've noticed this more than once.......

ie, check out the nutritional values for cooked extra lean ground beef:

    Calories 219
    Protein 31
    Carbohydrates 0
    Fat 8.7
    Cholesterol 78mg

    Now by additon: (31*4)+(8.7*9) = 202.3

How did they overshoot this by nearly 20 calories?

And I've noticed this more than once on different foods. Are they incorporating a value that I am omitting??

perhaps the weight of serving size is inaccurate....often times, it's simply rounded up

Can be a few different factors man.

Could be the content of sugar alcohols or fibres as well. Sometimes when sugar alcohols are included they will be counted for only 3kcals, sometimes 4 (the correct amount is 3, also every gram of fibre will subtract 1-2kcal from the overall as well. Sometimes there are MCT's as fat which some people count as 7kcal rather than 9.

Sometimes its a bit of rounding as well.

Dont stress too much over it.
