Why wouldn't you want any protein after training.

Imo, that's the most important time.

Your body has used up all of its nutrients during heavy training. When you drink protein along with some simple carbs it helps deliver that straight to where its needed. I do it every single day. I would drop all of my supplements and take protein if I could only choose one thing to take.

U don't need to drink whey.... And the carbs do help but they don't have to be high glycemic indexed carbs ...Although I do think it's true that those simple sugars would replenish glycogen in less time because of the quickness that they hit ur system

As long as u have good protein after workig out ur good ...the advantage of whey is that it hits u right 20 min after ...

I switch from real food from time to time

amino acids are whats crucial post workout. whether they come from food or a supplement is up to you. the carbs are not of immediate importance and i dont advise simple carbs postworkout, or ever for that matter.

You need protein from somewhere, be it food or a shake..shakes are more convenient and break down faster. Don't be the guy at the gym that says he doesn't need protein, please.

Op necessary NO, BUT if you want optimal results it would be wise. If you have been eating every few hours throughout the day like you should be you will have nutrients the body can pull from. But like i said it would be wise to do so. the best thing to do is sip on BCAAs during training, take a protein shake PWO and the PWO carbs will replinish glycogen. Now depending on your goals the PWO carbs could be avoided. But what is going to repair your muscle tissue are the foods you eat in the next 12 hours........... TOPHER

Protein and carbohydrates should be consumed post workout immediately and once again 1 to 2 hours later. After a workout is the best time of day to feed your muscles. Your muscles will repair either way, but feeding them immediately speeds recovery so you can hit them just as hard next time, and prevents any breakdown of other muscle tissue to aid the ones you worked.

ie.) when I get home from the gym I immediately have a mass gainer protein shake, which gives me plenty of quickly digested liquid carbs and proteins to refuel my muscles and kick start recovery. An hour or so later I will consume a complex-carb dense meal with a similar amount of protein, and repeat this meal again 1.5 hours later.

In short, YES, protein is essential post workout. Carbs are just as or more important but should be measured in respects to your goals (cutting or gaining)

agreed... all your body's needs can be obtained from real food and in theory this is better for you.

However if you're like me supplements are the easy answer to a busy schedule.
