    Psychological Warfare

I'm talking about lifting and in the gym...

Share your tips and tricks when lifting alone, or with a spotter.

    For example:

    - I will visualize lifting the set, without assistance from a spotter proir to lifting the set, even though I'll probably need one.

    - If I'm using dumbells and I am seated waited to do my set, always place my feet on top of the dumbells, like I've "conquered" them before starting the set.

    - If you have a spotter, get him to say the rep numbers a split second before you actually reach the end of the rep. Even if you need a spotter. Get him/her to say "6" in the middle of the lift, not at the end.

    - Music. Without music I find it harder to concentrate and get in that zone.

    - A spotter. If anyone has seen Blood and Guts, Dorian's spotter alone would make me get another rep or two out.

Just some of the stuff I use to keep intensity up and keep advancing every workout.

    What do you do?

    When am in the gym.....
I lift with a parter almost all the time we have are head phones on and never talk ever.. He always lifts 1st I go 2nd if we change the reps we tell eacher with are hands on rep count. When am going to lift I always put chalk on my hands before every set . When am puting the chalk on am looking at the weights and say to myself this is nothing . Then I take 3 to 4 deep breaths quick and try like hell to bang them out . When I was power lifting the hardest thing was deads we would pull 500 for reps of 12 and I mean fast . For me that is heavy others it is a joke but its hard as hell to get 12 on your 4th set . I would stand in front of the bar close my eyes and in my mind picture a tornado above me and I would be getting my stregth from it then open my eyes I would yell mine.... As soon as my legs hit would grip and rip .... I dont lift that heavy anymore or pull deads anymore but I was getting pretty strong I just had to have a mind set that nothing matters but that rep nothing. I would have my parters slap me in the face anything to get the reps I needed . For me if my mind is there my body will follow ! I have lifted with some real freaks and went to power lifting meets where am hands down the weakest 1 there I have seen almost every dude that bangs in the gym get him self jacked before the lift . Hope this is what u are looking 4 bro.....

My gym is open 24/7, so I usually just go late at night and listen to music. This makes it much easier to focus than going during peak hours and being distracted by a sea of douche bags and hot chicks (usually hanging on 'afformentioned douche bag).
Also, I usually lift alone, as a spotter is often more hinderance than help, apart from BB benchpress.

I tell myself, "Ain't nothing to it, but to do it!"

I watch Bodybuilding Motivation clips from Zhasni on YouTube.

    I listen to Metal.

How could I forget the video's beforehand!

Bit of Blood and Guts, Ronnie shouting "nuffin but a peanut" if I need motivation.

I pick out the biggest or strongest guy in the gym or one busting ass with a big ass sweat. I watch his lifts.... I tell myself, are you gonna pvss out or show up and lift like an animal? I keep thinking... do you want to be better than the best or just be average? Look at that mother fvcker... Look at you getting ready to go light and pvss out...are you hear to work crazy like an animal or play? He sure isn't playing. then I crank some music and go to town...Heavy and hard. that's one of my techniques...lol

I feed off others drive to get past humps at times. It has always worked for me.... when I was in the Army and hurting in the field and felt like quitting...then I would look around and see others falling out. Then I would drive on even harder... off others weakness. If others kept moving... I would say if he can do it... I sure as hell can. It has been done before by other humans... I can do it too. I would never quit and would feed off others. It works.

Back in the day before sparring I would alway loosen up the jaw and facial muscles by opening my mouth real wide....now I still do it before a big lift like a dead/squat, it centers and clears my mind. Must look like a freak...

music is by far my biggest aid, namely metal and powerful trance.

i also feed off ppl watching me (not in an arrogant way, more of a 'i have to make this lift now' way), it drives me to big that big deadlift.

in comps i would visualise myself lifting at the world championships and every lift is for the title and record.

i can put myself in a 'zone' (block breathing helps with this) almost like a high and despite 100's screaming encouragement at me while im walking up to the bar, i cant hear anything but the ref's commands

I also seem to lift harder and better when people are watching. Power of the mind

I know that if I don't give 100% then someone else is working harder than me....

I know if I leave one rep in the gym, someone is working harder than me...

I know that my genetics are not superior, but you wont out work me....

    FACT!

Take that attitude with you into every session

:- Never listen to music while training, I must prefer listening to the clinking and rattling of the iron and the grunts I make as I lift, i'm kind of OCD with it. This makes me focus more!

:- I also like training when its busy, I get people watching me as Iift and seeing them out of my peripheral vision nudging their mates saying stuff about me just ignites the fire and I get another 1-2 reps out, nothing more inspiring than an audience watching!

:- Before my working sets I think about pass events in my life what have made me very angry, if I visualize myself back in time and how I felt I can create this huge adrenalin rush inside me and when I am at a stage I start lifting and force the anger out with every rep/dropset I complete. This takes me past failure everytime!

:- I am also good at positive/motivational thinking and while driving to the gym I regular put myself in the mind set of being bigger and stronger than anyone else, this means I have to lift harder with more intensity than ever before and by the time I'm at the gym I am ready for pain!

Year ago I had a training partner who use to call me and slap me before I started my set, he was on 40mls of cyp per week though but boy I pushed some weight in those days, we also nearly started fighting a few times lol

Just Reading this thread is making me pumped. Im on the comp right now about to get a workout and seeing your posts makes me wanna hit it harder. Also someone said about the videos. I just seen a few last week and talk about motivation!!!

As far as me i like to jam out to music and i also think of stuff that has pissed me off in the past and it helps me get a few more reps out. Sometimes i forget that theres others in the gym and i will say quite loud "Come on pu$$y!!!! Lets go!!" or something to that effect and i dunno it just helps me get another rep or two. I am not a big guy at all so people look at me funny because my face will turn bright read and my veins really pop out and im a little loud with the "come on"comments to myself. I dont care one bit because im not in there to impress anyone or show off. Im in there for me and what i want to accomplish.

I watch HEAVEY when I feel like Im slipping outta my groove, and seeing the morbidly obeese people suck it up and drop a shizzle lotta weight makes me feel like an 8ss for mot doing the same...than at the gym when I dont think I can push myself any harder, I visualize some 650lb chick that has never done anything healthy in her life doing my same weights....and I power threw a few more reps.

I actualy like working out more without Tiger most times, its harder for me to give it my all (sweating/grunty faces/messey hair/smelling ripe) when hes with me, plus I feel bad or rushed if hes done his stuff but Im not or I wanna stay longer. I still care to much about what he thinks of me ~ after were married I may not care so much lol

Haha yeah marriage might fix that lol. The gf's kinda the same way.. gets a little self-conscious at the gym, even though everyone's there for the same reason! And thnk she compares herself to much to other women at the gym. But if your not sweatin your not doing it right! lol. It's becoming an activity we enjoy together though.. motivate one another and feel great after then we go downstairs to the steamroom and sweat it out and relax.

^ tigers the same way (well except for the steam after, altho I know he would love that) he says it motovates him when I check him out during training (which I totaly do -lol) and it helps him push harder when he sees me
