    Cipralex. Good or bad?

Escitalopram (trade names Anxiset-E (India) Lexapro, Cipralex, Seroplex, Lexamil, Lexam, Entact)

My nephew just started this drug.
He is 20, and extremely antisocial. Very withdrawn. In the closet Gay until a year ago, when he came out in a drunken binge, followed by a suicide attempt.
Always been teased in school, mostly for his feminine demeanor.
Let me add that this Man is extremely good looking, and would take South Beach with a storm with all my connections I could set him up with. But with depression, I guess that stuff don´t matter.

Anyway, anybody has any experience with this drug? Is he going down a path of no return?

A by product of serotonin, 5 HIAA can be tested through spinal fluid, which would be painful and prob a bit excessive

And as far as im aware there is no way for dopamine levels to be tested as it never leaves the brain

I am not sure about the drug but there are a few google case studies : http://www.lmgtfy.com/?q=Cipralex+ca...ies+depression

I am a big believer that in order to treat depression there needs to be a lot of personal attention given to the one who is depressed. He needs a professional to sit down with him and talk things out. Depression is a disease and i have seen it kill people. The only advice i can give you is to show him support every way you can. Don't go over the top making it look obvious but do show him what we all strive for in life, acceptance.

    Thanks guys, good info.
So one way to test low Serotonin is to try Anti-depressants. If you feel a lot better, then I guess the natural production is low.

Depression is interesting. I wonder if people were "depressed" 100-500-1000-5000 years ago. I doubt it.
Depression seems to be a new epidemic.

Not sure you can test your testosterone by "home remedies." You need to go to a doctor and get bloodwork.

Depression is like any other newly discovered disease, it has always been around but now it has a name.
