Congrats bro but what do you plan on doing with all that education when your done? my advice would be stop with the education you have before you get your self in to much debt and start at a career....Im a personal trainers and I droped out of school not because over grades but beacuse I looked around at all my colleagues who had 5-6 year degree's and they were making the same or less then me and to be honest some of them were horrible trainers! I spend my money on certifications and advertising....Im not sure if training is what you are looking at doing? but if it is honestly I would stop were you are and start at it!if you want to go back to school in a few years do it but its not going to make you any extra money.

i dunno mate, i do hear what you are saying in investing in you PT business, but getting into the professional side like local council etc is a safe career. clients will come and go in PT'ing and there is no guarantee. if it were feasible for me to go into further education now, i would. my achillies heel is i dont teach aerobics based classes, if i did id still be in the industry with that as a crutch and an advertising source.

    alot depends on demographics also.

im considering going back into it myself, i know its going to be at least 12mths of constant advertising and stress though

Ya, I may go on to complete my phd immediately or I may go to work for a few years and then go on to get my phd at a later date.

in all honesty, i'd pursue that and have the fitness as back up or as an expansion. people are always going to have addictions and at a massive fvckin rate, the way the world is these days.

its great to follow a passion but sometimes that passion wont be enough. one word sums up the fitness industry and always will, SALES.

unless you get into scientific testing, working with pro athletes or a good management position you'll always be chasing an unreliable sales pitch based around whatever the media is latched onto. of course i have left out other avenues in sports employment, but you get my general gist.

Congratulations and all the best to you bro. I think this is an absolutely amazing idea. What better way to teach thoise with addicitons to care about themselves than to have them start to physically take care of themselves. Its impossible to treat yourself well and continue to feel like a piece if shit about yourself., I think this combination could be an amazing combination and I totally see the benefit to the recovering addict/alcoholic. I sincerley wish you all the best!! Keep us posted.

I see where you are coming from for sure, but the services I want to offer will not be offered in a public or institutional setting. I intend on targeting the extremely wealthy and training / counseling them in their homes as people with this kind of money either have a fitness room in their house or the money to buy some basic multi-purpose machines. Maybe I should consider a masters in psychology instead. Im getting my masters online, but Im not sure if I can get in a masters psych program with my limited amount of education in that field.

Dec I could totally see you being exceptionally good at helping people in that area. You have an ability to see right thoiugh BS and tell it to people straight without pulling any punches. Those 2 traits alone would be of great benefit in dealing with additiced people. I seriosuly think you could help many peopleand would be very good at this.

cheers for the vote of confidence jim. i may actually look into this as i cant get an opening in leisure/fitness at all. it may be time for another career diversion, 3rd time lucky eh? sick of working in jobs like accountancy and security, its all 'this is what you need to do, day in day out'. i like to be able to know i made a difference to someone/something, thats why i really enjoyed my committed PT clients, i usually ended up imparting advice to them on their personal lives when they wanted to get stuff off their chests. i need a different scenario afew times a day or i get seriously bored and bogged down.

Dobie, im not clued up on American education system at all mate, but i assume a 'minor' is what we would call a diploma? Diplomas over here generally last from 10wks to 52wks.

are there employment opportunities with that level, or is it really just a progression route to degree?

It would all be government, just that state laws are only valid in that state and are separate from federal laws / government. Federal apply to the entire country.

Hey just thought I would update you guys. After discussing this with yall on this forum and a lot of thinkin and researching I have decided to take yall's advice. I am going to get my Ph.D. in Psychology with a emphasis on drug and alcohol addiction. I just wanted to tell you guys I really appreciate your sincere insights and ideas. That is really rare in todays society. I get discouraged often because it just seems like no one really cares about anybody but themselves. It is kinda hard to believe that the course of my life was changed by a bunch of guys I have never met on an internet forum. I'm really stoked about the change of plan's. Anyway, just wanted to say thanks. Both for the insights AND for givin a sh$t about someone else.

HAHA, "I want to threw the army"you might want to brush up on some of your basics first!! HAHA, I'm sorry bro, that was just to easy to pass up. No hard feelings man and thanks for the congrats. If you knew how my wife is constantly F'n with me when I'm in school you would understand the true magnitude of it!! :-X
And ya that's a GREAT idea bro. Man, you would truly have to be a fool to pass up a free education. Good plan. Make it happen

the most simple way is to find what state run programs that your state has, each facility has differing ways of paying, but you provide the services, in house or a gym and then submit...
