HRT Help for My Wife?

Not sure if this is the right place to post this or not, but here it goes. My wife is 43 years old and has changed to a family practice doc that does/believes-in HRT.

After some blood work, he has put her on Testosterone Cream .2% and Armour Thyroid 120mg a day.

My question is; is this common protocol? What should she expect with this? Along with "balanced hormone", she is hoping to lose weight and improve muscle tone. She has been working out and eating really well. The lack of results is why she sought out an HRT doc in 1st place.

Would a common protocol also include Estrogen and Progesterone?

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I hope you get alot of responses to this thread, and post the results of her treatment. My girlfriend of 4 years who used to be insatiable hit menopause last year and her sex drive is steadily falling, and her energy levels and strength are falling as well. Typically, the doctors you see don't have a clue, so I've done a bunch of research (not much out there on woman), and she's going to the doctor this week and telling the doctors which tests to run. it's funny how many advances and research that have been done on male hrt, but theirs very little on woman, and the early hrt's very woman were very damaging

good article, and it points out what a disaster the synthetic hormones on woman were. though it still concerns me any time they mention bumping up a womans estrogen levels (even with the biodenticals) because of all the problems created previously. My girlfriend and I are doing lots of research

As you should. Check the finding a physician sticky. You may find a search engine that helps you find a good doc. Particularly the A4M one.

TMan, welcome to AR. Definitely would be good for you and your wife to read the female sticky, and also read this one, which was created this past summer http://forums.steroid.com/showthread...y4mysweetheart

There are many dynamics involved with straightening out the female endocrine system. I don't hear any mention of DHEA, E1, E2, or E3, and nothing on progesterone. I would really want to see her labs with everything to help better assess her situation. Is it possible that she will also join here? It just might be easier for her to connect with other female members, and form a little network with other ladies who maybe share similar issues.

Let us know what you and your lady take from that thread I copied on there. Bengal is my wife, she will more than likely chime in at some point, but would probably be more effective working directly with your wife. And I can try to channel PPC, who is the top of the top for getting females on track with their hormones.

Vette, how do these new protocols and thinking compare in side effects to the disaster they called hrt for woman ten years ago. I read the posts and articles you put up, but what have you heard from people actually using it

The doc may have her only addressing her testosterone and thyroid if blood work indicated those levels were lacking. But you both need to know why he did it. You need copies of her blood work. If estrogens and progesterone were also tanked then your wife will surely need help with them.

Ten years ago, Premarin a horse estrogen was routinely part of female HRT. The results of the WHI study changed the way women are treated with hormones for good. Horse estrogen and synthetic progestins were found to be harmful, we're talking giving rise to breast cancer and major cardio vascular issues. Now we have some docs prescribing bio identical hormones - safe so long as given to achieve natural levels. If over done - minor side effects. That's basically been the big change in the last ten years along with Docs like the one treating your wife who now realize testosterone is also vital for women. Premarin style HRT did not involve testosterone. Oh yes Premarin was notorious for weight gain. Bioidenticals usually help with weight issues.

What was compounded and dispensed was labeled Testosterone .2% 30GM CRM
She is supposed to apply 4 clicks one a day.

My girlfriend just got her bloodwork back, and her estrogen and progesterone levels were within range, but her testosterone level was zero.the doc wrote her a similar prescription.I'm interested to see how much it will end up costing, as well as how it makes her feel.she's very excited and hours it helps her get her energy levels back

Let me know how things workout for her... sounds like in a simular situation as my wife. This is a new doc for my wife and he has also taken her off of synthroid which she has been on for about 3 years and has her trying Armour.

The Test Cream we got compounded at a local pharmacy that is sort of the place to go around town for this sort of stuff. It cost about $45 which will last a month. This is without insurance since most insurance want pay for compounded meds. Hope that helps.
