    Graduation party planning

Our daughter graduates HS soon and we are putting the party together. We sent out around 120-150 invites and I am responsable for most of the food prep.

We are trying to determine how much food/drink/ect: to plan for. We dont want to run short but don't want a ton of food wasted or left over.

We are roasting a hog (half most likely) and making pulled pork sandwiches.

How does one consider the amount of food for such a party with such unknown variables???

Firstly I'm assuming my invite is in the post and secondly loads of food
Catering for 150 teenagers wow that's a whole load of wings, burgers, hotdogs and all that sort of stuff

Plan to have at least 150 people show up. Most of the time people you don’t plan on showing up show up. Your daughter’s friends will show up even if they have parties of their own. My parents hosted 9 HS graduation parties and every time had an average of 100 extra people show up.

120-150 invites went out...considering spouses and children it could be as many as 300 ppl. Not sure what to do (never done this before).

Customs must have held up your invite but consider this an open one buddy...see ya next Sat

typical serving size for a sandwich in ounces, times the number of people. If you invited mostly girls, that will likely do. If you invited boys, double it.

Best pulled pork comes from the shoulder or butt. When I do a big bbq with 20 people, I usually have 3 8 pound boston butts and figure about a 1/2pound for guys, 1/4 pound for girls. I usually have a little left over.

Teens are crap shoot dude. If you're going with potato salad, corn, etc... You'd be good with about the same amounts (1/2 pound of pulled pork is a lot!), and figure about half the weight of the butt will cook out (especially bone-in, which are the best; more flavor cooking with bone in, and easier to tell when it's done; bone pulls right out!)

So IMO, if you're looking at 150 kids, I'd say 75 boys at 1/2 pound (37.5 pounds cooked), and 75 girls (18.75 pounds cooked), which equals about 112 pounds pre cooked boston butt, bone in.

I get mine at Sams club for about 99 cents a pound down here in Texas, but up north it can go for upwards of 2 bucks a pound.

Don't forget to rub your meat!

We are actually butchering a 250-300lbs hog and tossing 2 halves on 2 Traeger smokers.
This isnt just kids..it's family, friends, teachers etc:
Pulled Pork, Chips, and a Hawaiian salad (goin Luau style)

If we sent out 120 invites, considering spouses and kids per invite...what is a likely number of ppl to expect I wonder. I say 200. Wife says 300.....

Morally we shouldn’t even be thinking about high school GIRLS. I find it creepy that my buddies that have teenage daughter can check out teenage girls. As a father of a teenage daughter would you want someone who is not close to her age checking her out?

I will be shooting it myself tommorow night. I will likely only use half of the hog. You think that is enough for 250 or so???

Really depends on the hog. Figure you'll lose half the total weight once it's cooked and deboned, and you're lucky to wind up with 75 pounds of meat or so. I might add another shoulder just to be safe, depending on what else your cooking. Keep the butt for yourself later though. lol

face has some good meat too; the nose and ears are amazing, as are the cheeks.

Man code: Half your age plus 7 is the maximum age difference you're allowed to date. Eighteen and up are okay to look at.

If they are considered an adult it isn't creepy but if they are still considered a child it is.

serving alcohol? in 9 months from now we are going to have a ton of new pregnant teenagers.

Just to perpetuate the stronger of the species, only serve enough food for 10 people and strategically place 5 clubs around the yard... Game on... that should get rid of the Metro boys

a half a pound of meat per head should be plenty

120+ for a HS graduation party?

....sounds like you are setting your self up for a bigger headcount when she gets married. could be expensive

We thought that was small compared to many we know. We both have small families. It's just family, friends, certain teachers and such.

How many cases of beer? How many bottles of liquor?

    Friends/family/teachers still gotta party

150 ppl showed? How many did you invite? This is the huge unknown!

I'm hoping this 200 pounder will produce 75-100 lbs

Nope...NO way do I want to be responsible for ppl drinking at a part I'm hosting. I've seen way too many ppl get in trouble for this.

We sent out 100 invites and planned for 200 people had about 150 show up.One thing I noticed is that some of the people had came from other parties first so they had already eaten and did not eat at our house.
