Is ripttoe's SS best to build the base?

Is ripttoe's SS program best to build the base of your workout?

so, if i can do 50kg bench press now, what should be my goal before i finished SS program?

Your goal should be to hit a plateau 3X without being able to exceed it. Then, you move on to a different workout.

Say you get your bench to 70kg but can't do 3x5. Drop 10% after failing 3 times at it. Build your way back up to 70, fail it after 3 attempts ( not 3 trys but 3 different days). Drop 10% and do it once more. If at that time you can't complete a 3x5 of the weight you may want to move towards an intermediate program like 5/3/1.

Stronlifts is very similar to SS in technique. If you use a smart phone, look at the app "Biglifts" for SS and 5/3/1 or look at the app stronglifts for that one. They are all really good workouts in my opinion.

Very good program. Everything Brett N said is good advice. Stronglifts vs SS differs mostly by one using powercleans and one uses rows. I really recommend staying on the program as long as you can and squeeze out any and all linear gains. Some people don't stay long enough and they lose out. They are progressing much slower than they should by switching too early. Make sure you eat alot. Go to the diet section on here.

Don't get obsessed over a single lift like bench press. You're body functions as a unit. Train the whole thing. 90-100kg bench should be easy weight in no time.
