Personally i wont touch Good Mornings... Ive a lower back problem from my early days in athletics... I live with constant back pain, and Good Mornings turns that bareable pain into agony. So, cant help you out, sorry. Haha. Best of luck
O... Today I got 225 for 8 reps..![]()
****....uhh...i'm a leg guy myself...but what are they?![]()
Hoss, do you seriuosly not know what good mornings are?
If not, they are primarily a lower back excercise.
Place a bar on your neck like squats and bend forward at the hips, keeping a slight bend in your knees and bend forward to a little under parallel (your upper body to the floor) and then pull back up with your lower back.
i cant do those things anymore they start to hurt my back as hell before that i used to do about 135
i don't remember anyone asking.....Originally Posted by bigol'legs

One of the best exercises to work the posterior chain. I used to go heavy on these before, but I tend to do em a bit lighter now.
I was going to reply to this until I realized you meant bodybuilder-style GMs, as displayed by Arnie in his Encyclopedia, and not Westside powerlifting-style chain suspended GMs.
I was convinced I actually had impressive numbers to post there for a second!![]()
315 for 5 at 270 BW
haven't done them in a long time, but my best ever set was 225 for 5
I was thinking about tredding the water with 315... maybe next weekOriginally Posted by bdtr

yea, those irratate my lower back also, or maybe my form just isn't right...who knows....
Are those numbers in lbs or kgs?
Wow I didn't realize ppl actually did Good Mornings...I've seen pictures of it in older workout books but have never once seen it done in the gym. Personally it scares the **** out of me. I'd expect my first rep to be accompanied by the sound of cracking timber aka my back splitting in two. Mechanically it just doesnt seem like it would be good for you at all - none of you have ever had any problems doing them?
No... never had any problems.. and the back pumps are AWESOME!!! cant sit up straight for days
and slobber... its in lbs.
You got me beat bro...........best so far (due to the fact I'm waiting on a release from the doc) is 135 x 20. I love to do these but I always have trouble kepping the bar from rolling off my back and skinning the back of my head.
Straight bar, cambered bar, ssb? Seated, free standing, narrow stance, wide stance? Arched back, round back flat back? Chain suspended?
I'm a powerlifter if you can't tell. My best free standing arched, wide stance is 550.
I only do straight bar.. straight back.. and feet together.Originally Posted by slobberknocker
Those are definitely the hardest. I think my best is somewhere in the neighborhood of 400. Pretty weak for a powerlifter.
I know its alright to do arched GM's but I've still been to scared to go arched.
