ripped off?

i think i just got really ripped off today.....my car got messed up. the shifter cable snapped and has to be replaced. they want to charge me 675.00 plus taxes. does that seem about right to any of you? i got a 99 svt contour

You gotta figure most places charge like $70-$100+ per hour on labor...if its serious trans work then it can easily be that including parts and what not. I am not too familar with the shifter cable thing though sorry.

there should be something like that through the dealership. i dont think they can sell it as is. u should be protected for a certain amount of days. may not be 30 tho.

I replaced this before and I am not a motorhead... fairly easy and yes that is a hell of a lot of mulla... for about 25 dollar part and an hour you can do it... does take another buddy though to make sure you are lining up your shifter correctly before you bolt it down...
easy..one end bolts to linkage, other end bolts to shifter... cable length adjusted while buddy watches your shifter to make sure it's in the right position
