Phew...what a journey. Nov. '05 had blood work done for T. by my primary MD. Came back low normal. He agreed to give me 200mg depot test (cyp) IM every 3 weeks, but no sooner and said I needed to see an endo or uro. I took the depot test every 3 weeks, supplementing with some Prop in near the end of the 2nd week and through the 3rd week until i could get my "fix". Jan. '06 had appointment with a urologist. He was cool, but wanted his own bloodwork done before prescribing anything. So...more bloodwork...same results..low normal, only this time my LH and FSH were near 0. Sooo, now he wanted me to see an endo, and have an MRI done of my pituitary. Enter a well renowned clinic (not HRT clinc). Mar. '06 met with endo. He wanted his own blood work, plus the MRI. MRI was fine. Bloodwork, for the 3rd time in 4 months showed low normal, I mean barely normal T. I waited for 3 weeks after my cyp shot and did not supplement with prop. So this dude says I fall in the normal range and he doesn't think I have hypogonadism. He can't explain the weight gain around my torso, the constant fatigue, being cranky and kind of depressed, no libido, mild ed, etc....but doesn't feel it is due to low testHe wanted me to wait another 3 months with no T and do bloodwork again...I called bullshit...said no to his reccomendation and asked, or nearly demanded T. He caved and prescribed 2.5 Andorgel...little did I know this was just to placate me. I returned to my uro yesterday with the MRI results, he said you have low test, I just wanted to make sure there was not a tumor on your pituitary. He said 2.5 was worthless and prescribed 6 mos. of androgel 10!!! YeeHah. Now I'm not all jacked up about putting the gel on every day but I am cranking about the 10mgs of good ole T I'm gettin' every day. He doesn't need to see me again for 6 mos. then we do follow up bloodwork.
I guess the moral of the story is we, as men, really have to work to get HRT from the mainstream health care system, but it is worth it. I had also asked the endo about HGH and he scoffed and said HGH was a hormone looking for a job. Well I know from experience that is false. We have to take responsiblity for our own healthcare by educating our MD's and taking an active role in our treatment. Peace bros...
