Shaving the acromium, should I do it?

I have a mild type 1 irritation of the AC ligament in my shoulder, it is pressing against my clavilce and causing pain/discomfort 90% of the day and limiting my ROM bad.

I am scheduled for an MRI but the doc says I could have the surgery.

Should I do it? I am thinking it is going to be a god send for me but Im not sure, peole are telling me to not do it but I dont think they fully understand.

    Any advise?

get a second oppinion before you do it, if both ortho's agree surgery is the best option, i would do it if the pain was that bad.

no real risks just recovery , which sucks. the risk may be that it wont work , but honestly, it cant get any worse than it is.

M I getting my hopes too high to think that I will have full ROM and decent strength back in a few months after the surgery? Possibly?

it is possible. i wouls anticipate a good imporvemnt but it may not be full, hard to say, depends on how severe the damage is. did you get the mri results yet?

not yet, I am getting it done on the 10th or the 17th I forget which one, do you want me to show you the results when I do?

it was a mild type-1 acromioclavicular injury.

Surgery for a type 1 is not standard of care as far as I know. Im not an expert, but type 1 and 2 are generally treated with anti inflamatories and maybe a sling.
With type 1 you dont have a displacement of the joint so what would be the point of internaly fixing the joint? That joint might not be as glamorus and famous as your shoulder's glenohumoral joint, but it plays a signifcant role in flexibility in protraction and retraction of the scapula, ad and a**uction of the arm and also the shoulder itself. Its not something you want imobilized for no good reason.

Unless he can give you solid reasons that the above concerns are not applicaple in your presentation, I would see another doc or 3.

basically the acromium is pressing against my clavicle, causing the pain. THey are going to shave the acromium to reduce/prevent this pain.

Im not sure i understand your point.
