But if TSA searches your checked bags, they probably would't give two shits if you had syringes.

definitely wouldn't bring them onto the plane personally. i'm sure you can shop around to some local pharmacies when you get there and find someone who will sell you pins. or as others suggested, mail some to yourself at the address you're going to.

as far as the gear, i'd probably do the same for it. after all, look at how paranoid airlines are with everything nowadays. hell, you can't even bring a bottle of perfume onto the plane bigger than what, 4ounces? it's ridiculous, and when they see some unkown fluid in an oddly shaped bottle in the x-ray, they very well might take a look.

TSA will not do shit if they find syringes in your checked luggage.
Syringes is legal in almost all states without a prescription.
They will not spend time trying to find out if you legally can have them, they are concerned about security.
