Grade 1 possibly 2 shoulder separation, how long do i lay off?

Usually im 3-4 days a week, depending on work schedule. I have laid out this entire week, doc i had look at it when I was at his office doing pc work said to lay off of lifting and sports for 2-3 weeks. Bad thing is I have a Championship game this weekend for the semi-pro team i play for, and I'm not missing that. So god willing it doesnt get hurt worse (already have full range of motion without any pain, just when laying on it) when do you guys think i can get back to my regularly scheduled workout? TIA guys

Most will tell you 4-6 weeks, If its aboslutly neccesary you could try some naproxen to alliviate the inflammation during you game

Well we won the 'Chip. Shoulder still is slightly sore. I can lay on it now with hardly any pain. Seems like this one is going to take another week or so. ****ing sucks!

avoid all exercise that increase the pain! listen to your body, give it time to heal and dont push yourself beyond, this will only make the injury last longer.

yeah i agree with DOC. i came back a little too early from a shoulder injury like that and after warming up i bumped up the weight slightly. long story short, i aggrevated the injury and was out for 2-3 months. take time off until there is absolutely NO pain, then slowly work your way back into the gym. PT may help also while youre off the iron. good luck -B-STRONG

Thanks for the advice guys. I was trying to fondle my girl in the car on the way back from dinner, sneak a grab if you will, and i felt it again in my shoulder. Its not fully healed which sucks because I feel like I'm the wicked witch and I'm melting ooohh nooo im meeelltinngg. haha. I know its all in my head but still, as they say it takes a week to form a habit and i dont want to form a lazy fat ass habit. Going to give it another week and give it a shot since football is done until fall.

You didnt have any nerve damage to the axillary nerve did you. Do you get numbness in your arm anywhere? Shoulder seperations sometimes can damage the axillary nerve that runs through the arm in that region. If you dont then you have no nerve problems.

I dont have any numbness anywhere i checked after i read your post. The only issue i have is tenderness but i guess thats expected. I remember it took about a month and a half when i had it happen to my left shoulder few years ago, but that was a grade 2/3 seperation.

I have the same problem. Most likely from going too heavy on weighted dips and not warming up properly. Doctor told me that if it hurts dont do it. So I continued to workout but with light weights and high reps. My pain is now gone and can only do dumbell exercises. The problem now seems that I should have stopped working out completely. I have been on HGH for about 9 months or so which has helped a lot.

My shoulder now feels like it cant stay in place. It seems that I have a tear in my capsule that holds the ac joint together. If I put too much pressure on it from doing bench presses or shoulder presses I can feel it move out of place. If I were you take at least 4-6 weeks off. I ended up doing that and it helped my shoulder out a lot but its already too late as I can tell its more than just a separation.

If you are still gonna workout just do dumbells only.

Yea I definitely had problems getting comfortable sleeping. I had to sleep certain ways and still do to avoid the miscomfort. I made a mistake to continue working out even going light and doing more reps. I eventually got stronger and used to the increased reps that I was doing what I used to warmup with for 10 and was doing it for 15 eventually.

Taking off for a month will be good for you anyways and you will definitely tell a difference. If anything focus more on your back and legs and give your chest and shoulders a break. For me I can only do dumbells now instead of the bar and it will probably be forever. No biggie as long as I can still do shoulder presses and chest.

Believe me i know about Seperated shoulders...I had a grade 2 seperation in my left shoulder from hitting a wall and grade 3 seperation in my right from gymnastics. A sports doctor will prob give you cortisone....In the shoulder it made me pass out it was so painfull but i was cured for a good 7 weeks after 100% .... after the 3rd shot the doctor said no more... very damaging to joint fluid ligaments ect... Becuase this is not an inner shoulder joint injury like a rotator cuff ect the only remedy is outpatient surgury where they cut the tip of the clavicle off.,

The seperation will not fix itself .....the pain youn feel is most likely inflamation or rubbing. After speaking with the doctor after 6 monthes of pain he assured me if i could stand the pain working out will not worsen the injury. So thats what i did for 2 monthes i turned up the headphones and worked through it.... after a while the pain subsided on its own.

Only when i flex my traps really hard to i get any kind of pain, feels like after you pull a muscle how it is kinda sore to stretch, kinda like that cause after it warms up from a few times flexing the muscles its fine. Oh well, back to the gym for me been off long enough, if its gonna hurt its just going to have to hurt.
