Competing and tattoos

What is the general consensus on tattoos and competition?

I remember watching last years Mr.O and noticed a few of the competitors had ink (although they did not place in the top 5), though it was hard to tell with the amount of tan they were sporting.

Dorian also had a tattoo on his forearm, during his reign. I guess my question is, if you are interested in competing at some point, would it be wise to hold off on getting a half sleeve forearm done (wrist to elbow).

I'm curious to know, because are you really judged on your forearm muscles?

Its common to see tattoos at bodybuilding competitions. I haven't seen any obvious indications that competitors with tatts are judged down for it. Ive even seen guys with numerous tatts win overall competitions. Also guys with blue mohawks. Not a look Im going for, but it doesn't seem to matter.
