x2 agree with above. That was pretty much what I was going to say. Keep it clean and hit it hard.

dude do not bulk, your gunna look like shit. Cut down, you will gain some muscle and shape again from just hitting the weights after not for so long. But if you bulk now by the time you are finished cutting off all the fat you will be nothing. Better to work with a clean slate then build upon that.

I did the same thing bjpennnn suggested, I took a year off my self and I got in a really bad way. Sat down my stomach and saggy chest looked like a very unhappy old mans face. So I decided to loose as much as possible in 5 to 6 weeks before getting back into a bulking phase, I manged to cut down by 14lbs (ish) and 4 of my abs became visible. I was slightly pissed that my ribs started to show before the rest of my abs but I took this as a gauge that I was ready to start bulking clean again.

But importantly I'm glad I did, my muscle gains are much more visible to my self and other people where as my training partner who got quite out of shape is slowly trimming up while trying to bulk and although he is doing it it's less visible and as he puts it, less rewarding.

I agree with the above posts thought I don't think you're in bad shape after a year out. So I think on which ever option you decide you'll be happy with the results.
