This link sums up the average muscle gain of a [newbie bodybuilder ---> advanced bodybuilder] according to well
known names in bodybuilding such as lyle mcdonald and alan aragon.
It basically states:
Year of Proper Training Potential Rate of Muscle Gain per Year
1 20-25 pounds (2 pounds per month)
2 10-12 pounds (1 pound per month)
3 5-6 pounds (0.5 pound per month)
4+ 2-3 pounds (not worth calculating)
So take an average skinny ecto 19 year old male who has just started lifting seriously. He is 6'2 and 160lbs at 10%
bodyfat, is doing an upper/lower split 4 times a week, adding weight to the bar/doing more reps week in week out
and is bulking at a +500kcal surplus.
According to these sources: At 22 years old this male will have 2-3 years of serious training. He should be at 6'2,
200lbs at 10% bodyfat and cannot grow anymore/adding muscle mass too slowly to see (naturally).
Surely it is safe/right for him to start cycling lets say a 400mg test cycle once maybe even twice a year whilst
correctly PCTing?
