There's a guy that owes me $1,600. He is ignoring me completely. I dont know what to do. There are a few problems
A) I can not get physical with the situation
B) He'd kill me
C) He is ignoring my calls/txt's and everything.
So... anyone have any ideas? It's driving me insane i need the cash

Anything in Michigan under $3,500 is 'small claims court'. You file in the district he resides in. If money is owed in a business name, file in the district of the business. No lawyers are needed and no third parties are needed. He would have 21 days to respond before you go to court.

Ok, you know where he lives...wait outside his house until he comes home then ask him for the payment....maybe he is waiting on some money himself and just doesn't want to bullshit you, making excuses until he has the money...ask for partial payment or weekly payments

I am a contractor,before you to go to court you have to for warn him on your actions its called 'notice to owner', this usally scares someone to pay you because if u lien his property he cant do shit with it till he pays you first, or has he had other work done that would require permits, like windows replaced or a bathroom remodeled lately is so call city code and report him its a 4500 dollar fine for getting caught doing a bathroom with no permit, better yet cut his water main with a saw zall it will tae 2 seconds

I think that will be a good idea, I know alot of people he knows because he goes to my gym...and if I explain to the gym how much of a deadbeat he is...they will take my side of things.

That was your first mistake. Never do business (painting, concrete, illegal ect) with anyone in organized crime, whether it's a biker gang or the mob. You will not see a dime, especially if you yourself have no ***th. They use the intimidation factor to get what they want and dont pay and they will get away with it because no one wants to get involved.

Well the reason he knows where I live because we use to be very friendly with eachother. and his friend lives on my st... so i was like just "you know here Scott lives? I live 4 houses up from him"

Next time you "paint" someone's house take at least half down and half on completion. A better option is full payment in advance. If they really want the job done paying in advance shows their serious. That's how I used to handle freelance work. The ones that do not want to pay in advance are full of shit and trying to get over.
