I've tried it, but it didn't lower my BP much and it causes pedal edema from the peripheral vasodilation. **** that.
My favorite first line BP med is lisinopril (or Losartan if you're susceptible to the dry cough from ACE inhibitors), followed by HCTZ (a diuretic).
If tachycardia is causing the issue, then Bisoprolol is a good beta blocker to use, as it can be taken once daily and is highly cardioselective (unlike metoprolol, which affects adrenergic receptors throughout the body, causing many more unwanted effects).
Clonidine is very effective, but it can cause drowsiness (as it stimulates the parasympathetic nervous system) and needs to be taken several times daily. It also has the added effects of treating neuro/psych issues like anxiety and boosting GH levels.
Catapres/clonidine definitely works..too well sometimes
....and HCTZ alone works wells for me, but add Triameterene (Maxzide) and it got to be too much in the warmer months...no bueno/mas terrible.
There are 3 loves in my life: my wife, my English mastiffs, and my weightlifting....Man, my wife gets really pissed when I get the 3 confused...
