Profiles and PMs are restricted for the security of the members.

For instance, Jack Scammer registers and sees Joe Newbie posting like he needs a good source - Jack Spammer immediatly dispatches a PM to try and sell an expensive pack of tic-tacs labled D-Bol to Joe Newbie. Another reason we sensor posts that look like source requests or sources in general.

Or... Jack Spammer views profiles and starts sending out mass PM's and e-mails to everyone.

Both examples have happened and have been minimized by making a new member contribute for awhile before being allowed to view profiles and PM people. It would be further minimized by making new members wait for 50 or 100 posts... 25 really ain't that bad (if that is what it still sits at - up to the board owners discretion)... could be worse...
