whoa iron, chillaxe
i can't remember you asking that question
I trained under Bill Wolfe (
www.defendo.com) and some local guys here in my town
Iron, Brazilian JuJitsu as i was taught, is SPECIFICALLY designed for grapping on the ground, because when we were standing, it was muay thai we trained, and pain compliance holds (self-defence style)
Our entire preface of BJJ was studying
- the guard and how to apply armbars from
- escaping the mounted position (bridge and roll)
- passing the half guard
- sidemount (sidemount reversal and sidemount escape)
- the 3 point standup
(and of course your basic chokes, rear, side, gulliotine, front but that's without question)
Now these 4 years of training i stacked with my kickboxing, so i would do my KB class, and then go to my BJJ class, and our instructor was big on practicing the basics hundreds of thousands of times, so i'm not saying i know EVERYTHING about the art/sport, i'm saying that i have experience in it.
also, because my personal prefrance is standup, it is a disadvantage to me to stay on the ground, as people who are skilled will either a) set up for ground and pound or b) submit me
also, when i'm on the bottom, or in the guard, i get winded very easily
i've done a couple in-school tournaments which fortunetly prohibited striking while on the ground (to encourage skill over strength).
please don't call me a moron or a loser
