    Quick Motorcycle Question...

Okay, so my 1992 Ninja ZX-6D has this latch, on the left side, right under the seat, and it locks. It locks/unlocks with a key (the same key for the ignition), I assume people who own bikes know about this (this is my first bike, plus first year riding).

Now, stupid question, but what is it for?!? My friend said people hang their helmets from there, and I'm thinking you would have to hang the helmet from the straps, and if you did that, what is stopping someone from just cutting the strap off. I mean, you can't really hold much there. Is that what it's used for? Something else?

What do you guys normally do when you go someplace, and park the bike, do you take the helmet off and take it with you anywhere you go? I have heard of "helmet locks" but how do they work? How does one install it, etc...

    Thnx,
    T.

the latch is probaly for a helmet. if someone cuts the strat then the helmet
is useless. I just hang mine on the bars. me and my friends ride big crusiers and harleys. some one would need to be retarded to steal a helmet from one of those bikes. just by looking at them one would assume there is a big guy not to far away keeping an eye on his bike

You can use the metal hook on your helmet to lock it to your bike....but, be careful.

It's not 100% theft proof, and do you really want to keep your helmet out in the open with some dumb ass who might chip it or cause a crack ....or do something worse.

I don't know about you...but, I paid well over $600.00 Canadian for my helmet and I'll be damned to leave it out for someone to ruin it! Take care of it...it's the only thing keeping the pavement from from your noggin!!

Yup, I always use a helmet lock. I have one that looked kinda like a bike u-lock, and goes around the front of the helmet (mines full face). I don't want to lose my helmet, or have it damaged.
