you need more ram, you only have 256 of ram thats your problem

on about any pc runnin xp, IMO you need at LEAST 512, and optimally 1g

if you game i would get 2g

depending on your ram (prob ddr2) you can get a gig cheap if you get like 400 speed ram (pc3200)

Heres the deal with the processes you should close. Open Administrative tools -> Services. Find the service you want to stop, double click it then change the "start up type" to disable.

    Itunes.exe
Trend Micro has detected a new IM-based worm, WORM_OPANKI.Y, which uses the file name ITUNES.EXE for its routines. The worm spreads via AOL Instant Messenger, one of the top three IM applications in the world, and exploits the popularity of the iTunes application for music downloads. So disable this one for sure.

    aolsoftware.exe
this is just a normal service for aol but it doesnt need to start. disable it.

    ipodservice.exe
this is a 3rd party program that monitors when you connect to your ipod. could be dangerous. i would disable it.

    msmsgs.exe
its the windows messenger program. a waste of ram. disable it.

    sndvol32.exe
this is the windows file for volume control. dont really need it running.

    ascd.exe
another aol service that doesnt need to run.

    qttask.exe
this is for the quick time player. i would disable it.

    ps2.exe
ps2.exe is an application that provides configuration options for additional keys on Hewlett Packard multimedia keyboards. i would disable it. if your keyboard acts up then restart it.

    ituneshelper.exe
another itunes prog. id disable it.

    wanmpsvc.exe
this is used to help aol connect. if you dont use it then disable it.

that should free up some ram. if you have any trouble let me know.

Also remove these things from startup so they dont turn on.

Go to "start / run / msconfig" click ok, click on the startup tab and uncheck the checkboxes of the apps you dont want turning on.

A good rule is if you don't know what it is, then don't turn it off or disable it.

Ditto, be sure to know what it is that you are or arent disabling.
