Thread: Working offline...

    Working offline...

I recently had some broadband connectivity issues. (Cable modem died and the cable company says the signal appears to be weak in my complex.) Its working now, but now every page loads as Working Offline and asks me if I would like to connect. As soon as I hit Connect it goes directly to the page without a problem. I don't know why it asks me to Connect for every single page I navigate to. How do I make it stop prompting me and just go to the page?

it's because you clicked that youwere working off line at one time. If you go to file ... there is a work offline option that is probably checked ... un check it

I don't remember doing that...but maybe the b/f did. Anyway, I have to uncheck it everytime I navigate to another page. Like when I submit this, I have to make sure Working Offline is unchecked. How do I make it stop? I looked throught the Internet Options tabs, and couldn't find a place to undo it.

I'm just cursed when it comes to computers. When I called tech support at the cable company I told him my Motorola SURFboard must have burned out because it wouldn't go into standby and none of the lights, but On & PC Activity worked. He was like, that sucks, I've had mine for 9 years! Go figure, I've had mine 3 months.

Charter Communications--It blows. I had Time Warner for the last 6 years, then I moved to this place and all they had was Charter. I've had more problems with their service in 4 months than I had in the last 6 years with TW.

I have the same modem and I haven't had any problems yet. Sometimes there are one or two that come out with defects. You should make them replace it.
Do you have any anti-spyware programs? Sometimes spyware will make your computer do random things.

Motorola Surfboards are top of the line cable modems. Regardless, that's not your problem. Connect a second computer to your modem/router which ever you have and I guarantee it wont do the same thing.

Here's the issue, the problem is I.E. or your network connection on your computer. Browser problems like these are not easy to eliminate. Trust me, I've tried. Download and intall and use Firefox, http://getfirefox.com

    1) Don't tell her the cable modem isn't her problem. She can't be sure of that until she replaces it or tries another computer. And Since her cable company will replace it for free if she asks the technician to, don't see the point in NOT eliminating it as a possible problem. To rule something out that is pretty easy to check based on assumption can lead her down a total wrong path of troubleshooting

    2) Again with the pushing firefox. I use it, don't get me wrong i like it. Just there is no point to recommend some one to use another peace of software when you aren't sure that is the problem. BTW if her network connections settings in I.E are fubar'd , even after you install firefox...it will still use some of I.E.'s settings so doing so won't guarentee that she will have ruled out software.
