    Ramadan

    First off... if you are not muslim or have some sort of hatred... this is not supposed to be a political thread to aggravate any body of any other religions. Hopefully we can be open minded enough to let this thread stay civil. Since Islam is one of the top 3 religions in the world, I figure it be nice for other non muslims to understand a lil more about one of the most important holidays for muslims... As most of you guys know, Ramadan is the most spiritual month in a muslims year...It involves fasting during sun rise to sun set. That includes water. This is to celebrate what the Prophet Muhammad went through. That is the jist of it... you are also not supposed to think impure thoughts ESPECIALLY during this month.

    Ramadan Ends Tuesday this year (it is set to a lunar calender). On it's ending date, that is called Eid , which is short for something but I can't remember the rest (sorry). This is probably the most important day during ramadan except for "Laylat al-Qadr", which is the holy night on which the first verse of the Quran was Revealed Muhammad.

    Well First all EId doesn't start till you complete your prayers at the mosque..

    So we get up eat breakfast go pray at around 9-10am.. This is when eid offically starts... for everyone

    At my house...
    We come home eat brunch ( a damn good one) then just get some presents from mom and dad.. and chill at home for a bit

    Then around mid afternoon we all reach my uncles house (all uncles cousins etc gather here) exchange gifts and we eat lunch .. hang out for a bit

    then everyone goes does there own thing meet there friends (eat at their house) etc...

    In the evening we all meet up at restuarnt or and uncles house to eat dinner at like 9pm

    SUmmar ... eating day!

    In northern europe sunrise to sun set can be 18-20 hrs in mid summer this might explain why there are few muslims in Iceland, there are a couple of muslims at the gym I use, one in particular keeps asking about muslim bodybuilding diet, as I know very little about muslim diets or Islam for that matter I am unable to help the guy, any muslimm bb's out there care to enlighten me

    Depends how strict they are. I have a coworker who told me his family are so strict they don't ingest saliva, they spit.

    It's for spiritual purposes. They're not depriving themselves of food. Can eat before sun up and after sun down.

    depends on the sect...The duration of celebration is different with different sects ... but it's pretty kew that you knew the proper celebratory phrase

    A bit like Ramadan, only with more cream.

    Catholics are still supposed to fast during Lent, the forty days leading up to Easter. Fridays are "meatless". It wasn't ever much of a sacrifice, though. Mom always got lobster rolls, fish & chips, and clam chowder on Fridays.

    Not much of a spiritual sacrifice.
