figuring out what I want to do w/ my life-NEED HELP

I am a senior in college and will be graduating next semester (spring '07) and I am extremely indecisive on what I want to do with my life. I jsut can't make up my mind. I will be graduating with a little over a 3.2 GPA and with a sports business/sports studies degree. I have basically come to the conclusion that my major sucks ass and really doesn't prepare you for much, and it is too late to change given that I am a senior and I have already changed my major once b4. I have no idea what I want to do with my life so these are the options I have come up with:

-stay and get a second degree in marketing, management, or real estate (this will take me another 1-1.5yrs)

-stay or go to another college and get some sort of master's degree (god knows what I would get it in though )

-start preparing for the LSAT IMMEDIATELY and apply to law school-although I really do not know much about law school and what it entails just yet

if anyone has any advice/insight/suggestions on any of the above (mainly lawschool) then I would be very appreciative.

My cousin has his masters in sports something....and still works at Enterprise Rent-a-Car. Not much out there for what you are looking for, but if you find it....then Congrats to you!!

If you want to do something in marketing I would try and get a job with a marketing company. Even if its entry level. Maybe continue school part time if you need to. But a degree doesn't equal a job.

Sweetie...maybe you should take some time off completely from school....do whatever...work in a mindless job, travel, work in the field that you've schooled in (if thats possible..). Whatever it is...your very torn on what your going to do for the majority of your career. So, why move quickly into something that your not completely sure about?

Anyways...all I can say is don't jump into anything too quickly just to say your actually doing something.

Or you could be a firefighter where your paid to work 10 days out of the month, you can still go to school p/t or online classes. Awesome job, great benefits, security, retirement. Most of the time your paid to chill out, eat, work out, and shoot the shit w/ your buddies. And catching a good structure fire is fun and an adrenaline rush. It's the perfect fit for a guy like myself, ever thought of it?

Thats one issue with such a random degree, I'm sorry you cant decide, but outside of being a gym teacher that degree is very rarely used. Good luck man, I suggest you stay in and get a second degree is business

I worked for a defense company for a while (it's since been bought out by Raytheon), and they hired all folks with all sorts of degrees to work there. It didn't matter what kind of degree it was, just so long as you had a degree, you had a job. It had lots of different things you could do, like purchasing, accounting, production supervising, manufacturing engineering, and then if you were effective at getting things done, you could move up into management positions. My guess is that there are lots of jobs out there just like that, where it's less important what your degree is in than that you have a degree. All you need to do is tailor your resume to those companies to say that you have a degree in whatever, and you think that your education gives you valuable insights into their business problems.

Remember all that arcane number mumbo-jumbo you learned in algebra? Ever notice how 99.9% of the business world gets by with just a simple $5 four-function calculator and never bothers to factor polynomials? Same thing is true with most degrees. Few business folks ever use most of what they learned in school. All you really need is good common sense, and a foot in someone's door. That degree gets you in someone's door, and now the rest is up to you.

As far as going for another degree, don't bother. If you're worth a damm, you'll be snatched up pretty quick. If you're not, well, another degree won't make any difference.


You say you don't know what you want to do with your life . . . Well, welcome to the club. Most folks never figure that out. Lots of people start out doing one thing, and go on to other carreers in something totally unrelated. I used to make missiles, now I own a barber shop. One of these days I'm gonna run for a Justice of the Peace position (an elected position in Texas). No idea what I'll do after that, but I'll worry when I get there . . .
So don't give even a second's worry to what you'll do, because if you're any good, you'll get along just fine whatever you pursue. You have a business related degree, get a job in something related to business, and go from there. Save yourself some capital, and then start your own business.

I'd take some time off, and evaluate your goals. Do some traveling, and try to find more about yourself. Maybe volunteer, or take an internship somewhere that interests you?

Best most satisfying job in the world... and the benefits are insane... the work shifts being the main benefit... my shortest weekend is 4 days... almost all of us have sidelines (mine are teaching part time at the academy and kitchen installations )

You would easily be able to start up and run a good PT business on the side, and never have to worry about putting bread on your table when business is slow.

Two undergrad degrees are worthless, if you go back to school get your master's it will double your earning power over that of an undergrad degree. Plus it will make you more hireable. I have my masters I got it done in a year and a half. Most employers dont even care what field its in when they higher you, they just want to see the paper.
