Thread: whats your career?

  1. #1

    whats your career?

So i think its time for me to get serious about finding a job/career that'll ill enjoy and be good at and of course make good money and be financially secure and live a comfortable life.

i want to get ideas of whats out there from people that work in different fields and what their careers pay as far as location, education you may have, years in the field, ect.

my friend is trying to get me involved with his mortgage firm, and honestly it sounds nice..money, not many hours.

is anybody in the field loan officers, mortgage brokers. im thinking about running to the book store and picking up a book or 2 and give it a shot if i like it i think i may go to school for once and try and make the best of this.

thanx in advance for anyone that answers with opinions and details.

im an accountant. my advice is to major in accounting or finance.
its boring as **** i wont lie but its something that has career potential and great flexibility. we dont just do taxes and play with stock.

finance/accoutning majors can do any job that a marketing/general business/business manament student can do and beyond. they cant do what i do however. its a harsh reality that most kids dont know. accounting majors who graduated my college with a C- GPA were recruited and had job before they even graduated making about 40K while i had a friend with a 3.7 GPA in marketing and she went back to school because she didnt want to settle for a BS job. that of course is the low end if your a good student in a big city area you could make up to 55k your first year which is real nice.

the problem with being a loan officer is that for the most part its not a salaried position and unless there is a pooling of profits that some places now have you could go months without making a dollar and putting in a lot of hours. on the other hand if your a good salesman and find a niche you can make a ton of money. its not for everyone, same as being a car salesman only it has more glamour.

im sorry i approached this from a purely in a business way. the key in my head is to pick a trade that has growth potential. IT, engineering, and what i mentioned above are all great examples. people always say you should do what you like which is horrible advice because doing what you like might not put food on the table.

im leaning more towards this job type. somthing to so with finance. ive been offered a job with smith barney when i was setting up an IRA with the financial advisor..me and her had some detialed conversations about the numbers and ideas, and mentioned to me her office is growing and looking for new people to represent the company and her superiors would love to meet me. i didnt think much of it then, but now im thinking about seriously doing somthing with this..may not be smith barney but any big company. i have worked in sales i do enjoy it, i do enjoy getting that sale helping people find deals that help me make money. the office that wants me to work with mortgages the guys there make decent money my friends been working there for a few years and hasnt taken home anything less than $60k so i may give it a shot see what happens manage my money and try to make it work if it doesnt, well im 21 theres more out there and this is somthing to add to a resume.

I'm a Realtor and property manager. Typically these days I've been working with all REO properties. It's tough work but well worth it.

Yeah I know where there coming from, but **** that , you CAN make money your first month if you want to..The hard part is just finding qualified buyers, and It seems like you have some good referral sources so I would say you could do very well your first month....I'm sure your boy would be willing to help you out with your first couple loans, all you have to do is find the leads..If you decide to do it PM me and I will give you some good tips how to find potential buyers..And yes you will do better with the more knowledge you have but even if you dont know the answers, just bullshit and act like you ..Good Luck!

i dont work at all.. i use to but not anymore.. i make a little over 250k a year just sleeping and shopping and partying..

two years ago i went into a landscape supply store and applied for a loan.. got apporved for 8k. bought one riding lawn mower one blower one hedger and one trimmer and a small trailer.

started cutting grass in my neighberhood.. in less then six months i had hired two helpers to run the route and started another route on my own. that route took off in less then two months and hired two more helpers to run that route.. those two routes made me enough money that i was able to start the third route and fourh route by hireing four more helpers and getting those started without me breaking a sweat!!!

this was the easiest bussiness to start with just a G.E.D.. no college at all. in two years i built an entire fleet with a couple of heavy equipment machines and a shop.. i also own 12 homes and 5 condos that i rent out until the real estate market comes back to normal, at that time i will sell for some major profit..

this year my wife will finish college with a buissness degree and we will be able to take the company even futher... i i will not stop until im makeing 1mill a year or better.. the best thing about this bussiness and living in florida is that the grass grows all year round...

Currently a soph in the health field as well. At my school im in the Allied Health program which basically is the beginning of my track to all the major field in health. Most likely im going to transfer into the Kiniesiology: Pre-Physical Therapy program at San Diego State University. After injuring my back and seeing what Physical Therapists do I liked it alot and like the fact of eventually working for myself at my own practice. If anyone has any expierience with wage, lifestyle and anything else in this field please chime in.

I would say about the standard size dump around 40 feet or so. Have you seen them, what kind of condition are they in? Thanks!

Investor Relations, I help small public companies raise money. You would be supprised how much cash these companies are willing to throw around to gain the attention of POSSIBLE investors.

30-40 yard dumps sounds about right, that's how much material they hold.

Yeah i know bro i haven't been riding in so long. I have been so busy with work that i really haven't had any time. I went once to long island at exit 56 and i really didn't like it too much, it was kind of boring plus there were trucks in and out all day and not 2 much space to ride. Do you know of any better places to ride on Long Island where there is alot of space? I actually have to bring to the shop to put some parts on that i bought and haven't had time to install. Plus i din't even buy a trailer yet because i have no place to keep it at the moment. It's probably going to be in the shop for a couple of weeks, once it comes out then i'll be able to ride.

No it's not broken i just don't have time to put the stuff on plus i was thinking about getting it ported, not sure yet. I hear you bro, part of me wants to sell it and part of me wants to keep it because i don't even use it. It just sits around and collects dust.
