    Fitness Jobs?

Okay, so I pretty much hate where I work at and it is doing nothing for me... I was wondering what are some good fitness jobs or jobs dealing with fitness. All of my good buddies keep telling me I should pursue some type of career that deals with fitness and/or supplementation since I'm obsessed with the stuff and love talking about it. I'm in college right now so are there any part-time entry level jobs in the fitness world? Perhaps as a rep for a company or anything?

Personal Training is a touch business to get into. Most of the trainers that make the most money (most not all), are more salesman than they are good trainers. Usually the people that talk a good game will get more clients, regardless of how much they really know.

IMO- PT is not for everyone. TON's of BS and minimal pay. You become an adult baby sitter. You have to be completely passionate about it. It makes a successful hobby job, but don't expect it to pay the bills.

My buddy is a personal trainer and made 25K this month, some of it was 6 month contracts though so its not like 25k a month, but he made almost 100k last year. Its all about functional training for personal training, 98% of people dont care about getting big, just losing weight and being in better condition. Plus the key to making money personal training is multiple clients at once so you dont limit your earning potential. He trains at $25-$35 a session which is about 15-25 dollars lower than anyone else but he trains 4-8 people per hour. so he's making 200-300 an hour where as someone else is training 1 person at 50-60. Its all about getting results for your clients then they will get you more clients. Took him about a year to get where he is though. Its tough work at first.

Look into ISSA for a Personal training cert. Its better than NASM in the fact that it digs into the buisness of it also, and helps you learn to find and maintain clients.

Personal Training is great, I train people at the local Powerhouse Gym, part time, I only deal with new members for their 2 free training sessions they get when they sign up. So I get $10 for 30 minutes of work! Plus free membership, and free tanning!

ISSA is not a prefered cert, as there are plenty of gyms in my area that dont even recognize it and wont hire you if thats your only cert. Also, you take the test online at home, so that shows you how hard it has to be.

Im saying take ISSA if you want to go into it for yourself and not a gym because it has the buisness side of it also, plus you can get the nutrion cert also. but you can take the test at a 2 day seminar if you want also. Im not saying its the best for a gym, probably NASM would be. Or atleast thats what my friend that works for a gym in KC said. He said NASM was a big one that all the gyms he looked into wanted to see. You take that at an proctor location.

Something Im curious about...Im not too familiar with personal trainers as I've never needed one..However, I have been at my gym for a long long time.. We used to be in a much smaller facility and I noticed there were a lot of trainers who trained multiple clients at once but I do not think they nessecarily were employed by the gym because I knew a few of the trainers personally and they belonged to other gyms and the one dude ran some 'boot camp' sessions off site as well. At that time my gym membership cost about $180/year..Now that we have moved into a new 60,000 sq.ft. facility and pay about $640/year. I see that none of those trainers are there, and the only trainers I ever see with people are these ugly, terribly out of shape people wearing a shirt with the gyms name on it. Does this mean the gym does not allow you to train people at their facility unless you're employed by them? Just something I've been curious about..

Anyway LawMan...perhaps you could offer your expertise online and have people pay you for your time...Like how to score with hot babes in tijuana...

You would have to ask your gym. Each gym is different in this sense, but most gyms will not allow you to train members there, unless you go through them.

There are some gyms that are trainer only gyms, where you pay a fee to the gym to use it to train people or you pay them a per person rate, but there is usually a cap on it. My friend pay's the gym in Irvine $10 dollars per person per session until he hits $1000 then it caps for the month. The clients dont need memberships. I was looking at a gym in Kansas City, because I might mover there, They make you pay $249 flat rate a month to train as many as you want. plus all your clients need to pay $40 a month membership

Other gyms, like one that my friend in Kasas City works for charges $52 a session and he gets 26 and the gym gets 26, but they also pay him 9 dollars an hour at the gym. This is more of a salesman job because he walks around the gym all day trying to get clients.

Do any of you have professional sales jobs in the Fitness industry? I have a marketing degree and 8 years of sale experience. I’ve always worked in high-tech and I make good money but I could care less about what I sell. It would be great to sell something that I am interested in.
