Unhappy OMG we ALL have stds.. ahhh!!!

No serious, I thought I was a smart dude. Turns out Im quite an idiot.

I've HEARD of HPV before. Never knew what it was.

Today in my Research Methods class my teacher is saying that 83% of everyone is infected with human papillomavirus, basically an std that can turn into cancer, especially in the cervix of women.

So naturally I wilkepedia the shit and find this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Human_papillomavirus

"Quoted statistics of HPV infection vary, with one review finding reported values anywhere from 14% to 90%.[3] The major reason numbers conflict is simply a lack of context."

I'm still reading about it now to understand how the **** you get a "14-90% infection probality" Thats like saying you have a 5-95% chance of getting HIV. Makes no sense to me at all.
But any HPV experts out there feel free to speak up.
Idk where my teacher got 83% but shes a researcher so she knows her shit.

I just thought it was interesting that so many people may have an std they dont know nothing about.. I really need to get up to date with my std's

Yeah what is crazy it that sometimes you can get it from your mom!

When your born you can have injuries as your come out and can be infected that way. Thats why there is a huge push to get the HPV vaccine manditory for girls in middleschool, but the religous right is against it.

Wow Im so amazed at how ignorant I've been to HPV. I learned about all the basic ones like chlamadia, ghonerea and herpes. Than I heard about this one like 10 years later and figured "ahh just another stupid std i can prevent by wearing a condom" but theres some seriouisly crazy prevelance rates for it..

you know whats f^cked about herpes?

You can get it from simple skin contact from a person that has it and is undergoing an outbreak.

/\/\ that is SOO fvcked up but yeh I do recall that. I remember this girl we worked with was having a break out and she took her work shirt off and put it down right next to me and my buddy before she went on a lunch.

So we took a wooden bird perch/branch and poked/lifted the shirt into the garbage which was literally like 2 inches from the shirt.

When she came back we acted like it fell in by accident and she just went and got a new top from the office. Im not sure if it can host itself on clothing too but I wasnt about to find out.

Herpes is soo nasty and we ripped on that girl seriously for a good year afterwards once we got to know her because she was still new at that point.

The worst is when you see the fluid filled blisters on peopls lips and you have to talk to them about some important shit but you become so focused on the blister you think its starting to like pulsate and shit like its gonna explode all over your face and infect you. GROSS!!!!!!!

Oh god I know what you mean

I was dating this girl for awhile, and we messed around a bit but hadnt had sex yet. Then one day at work she had the biggest blister on her lip I have ever seen. Needless to say we never did anything after that.

Yeh it sux because if they're not having a break out you just kinda have to get suprised one day lol.
Back when I use to wrestle I would forfit matches because asshole opponent coaches were letting thier herpes infested team mates in the ring and it would piss me the fvck off.
Worst I ever got from wrestling was ring worm and a case of empetago but they both went away in a few months.
Herpes though is a WHOLE nother issue.

HPV is not a huge deal for guys other than genital warts, which yeah thats not cool

but for some women its can be very dangerous as it can cause cysts to develop on there cervix which can turn cancerous, and can also prevent a women from having kids too.

my gf went through this and had to have a minor surgery where they shaved off part of her cervix along w/meds, Its under control now but when she was going through this and it seems like the next step is chemo, shyt gets real, really fast.

i dont think guys get the warts...as far as i was informed only women see side effects ie. cancer or genital warts...guys can contract it and pass it but no side effects...

    That's not true.

The external manifestation of the disease depends on the carrier.

Just like Herpes.. most carriers don't know they're carrying.

Yea... we all see the people with herpes sores on their lips... but most of 'em have no idea how they got it.

Furthermore, they're a number of herpes strains.

Most docs hypothesize that the percentage of carriers is fairly high.

HPV... some people get warts. Some don't.

I know a chick who told me she has Genital warts.

Thing is..she's only had a 'em show up once.

She had them removed.. and years later she hasn't seen another one.

    Many STDs simply lurk

there is actually a vacine that they want to give school age girls to help prevent this because hpv in women can cause cervical cancer.

And FYI boys- as Nark said u can carry the virus but not have it show more than once or even ever...

When I went in for testing the doc told me that you have a 75% chance of catching HPV if you are sexually active, and that there is no way to test for it in males, jsut females. Just for the record, I was clean of everything they tested....
